ADDED

There have been a few Arma updates I could not resist adding to the THE ASSAULT:

ADDED
> IRON CURTAIN (the new update makes IRON CURTAIN much better): New Midland Coalition Faction added. Helicopter gunships added to US and Czech Factions
> WESTERN SAHARA (from the latest update): APCs changed and heavy gunners added to some factions
> JM's Second Assault: WW2 British and Italian Factions in desert and woodland camos added
> Webknight's Zombies: Smasher added to the Webknight's Zombies Faction and as a Boss option - although the Smasher is super hard, I've yet to manage to kill one
> Legion Studios - Insurrection: I was really sorry to see a lot of JMS sci-fi mods have been removed from the workshop. I'll keep the links in case they return. If you are missing Star Wars Stormtroopers I have added a faction using "Legion Studios - Insurrection"

CHANGES
> I've put a cap on the total number of civilians allowed to spawn at any one time. This has made a big improvement to performance!
> Some other small tweaks to intensify combat

FIXES
> Fixed an error where independent uniforms were not loading properly onto zombies

CHANGES
> I've changed the way enemies spawn in buildings to make them more frequent.
> In the final mission the number of enemies will go up if you had enemy independents, e.g. if the enemy size is four and the enemy independent size is two, then in the final mission the enemy size goes up to six.

FIXES
> Fixed a bug where enemies stopped spawning, or only spawned in small numbers during helicopter extractions
> Fixed a bug where "Clear the Area of Enemies" would sometimes get stuck if you called for reinforcements
> Fixed a bug which made British WW2 units require Faces of War
> Jam reported getting errors "opprank" and "playerteamon". I have not been able to re-create the errors, but I think I know what caused them and I think they are fixed. Jam, let me know if the problems persist!

NEARLY THERE!
> I know I have said this before... but I think I am nearing the end of developing THE ASSAULT. I could never have predicted when I released it last summer how many people would subscribe to it. Thanks for playing and all your feedback and suggestions. THE ASSAULT is so much better because of you - the Arma community is the best! I still enjoy playing THE ASSAULT, so I will fix bugs as I find them and add new QUICK FACTIONs if I see any I can't resit adding. Feel free to suggest ones you want included.

STORMS
> Storms now last 2-5 minutes instead of always lasting 5 minutes.

PROMOTION
> You no longer get promoted for inserting or clearing the area of enemies at the end of the mission.
> Fixed an issue where if you selected 'Promotion After Every Mission When Winning' and Promotion Type 'Increase Enemy Size' the enemy size would increase even if you are losing. Now, with these settings enemy size will only increase when you are winning.

> Apologies to Goon, but I replaced their snow and sandstorm scripts with ALIAS'. I've also replaced my Monsoon script with ALIAS'. ALIAS' scripts create great atmosphere, so I have been wanting to do this for a while.

POISON GAS
> Improved the way the gas spawns and de-spawns which has less impact on your frames. This also seems to have fixed the issue where the task messages stopped appearing.
> Fixed an issue where the "force gas mask" option was not protecting players from the gas.

QUICK FACTIONs
As a result of the new PRIAIRIE FIRE update I have made the following changes:

QUICK FACTIONs
> The mark the 40th anniversary of the Falklands war I have changed some of the Falklands QUICK FACTIONs:
> Britain and Argentina have Transport helicopters
> Argentinian special forces have NVGs
> Argentina has Hueys as gunships
> The Argentina ground attack aircraft is changed to the L39 to simulate the dreaded Pucara
> Fixed: British troops were spawning without ammo for their launchers

I've changed the Optional content for 'Czechoslovakia 1968' from 'MiG-15BIS_standalone' to Cold War Rearmed III.
This adds:
> For GLOBAL MOBILIZATION and IRON CURTAIN: SU-17 Ground attack aircraft and MIG-23 Interceptors
> For GLOBAL MOBILIZATION: Mi8 Helicopters
> For IRON CURTAIN: Czech units will speak Czech
The weapons for CSLA and IRON CURTAIN, in my opinion, are not anywhere near as good as their GLOBAL MOBILIZATION equivalents. So, I have added an option to switch CSLA and IRON CURTAIN weapons for GLOBAL MOBILIZATION ones.

OPTIONAL
Find the US Boats from PRAIRIE FIRE too big for Riverine Patrols? If you have 'Patrol Craft Fast MK1 - Swift Boat' installed they will be used instead.

Insert
> If your air assets cannot deploy at night you will no longer be able to insert by air at night
> If your air assets cannot deploy in bad weather the weather will be improved for the insertion (i.e. storms will not start until after you land)

Final Objective
> Option to add smoke to wrecks
> Option to place your final objective on a random road position
> Sometimes 'Hold Action' commands don't appear when the object they are attached to is close to trees/bushes/long grass. This is game breaking when it stops you completing the final mission (e.g. Change the Flag). To counter this, when you select the location of the final mission nearby trees and bushes are now removed.

Extract
> Removed the camera at the end of extractions as the risk of the extraction vehicle crashing was too great
> If your air assets are affected by storms/bad weather, then storms will end and weather will improve during the final mission so you can call air extraction

Poison Gas
> I have used Alias' FARTY script to add clouds of Poison Gas to the Battlefield.
> Find it in the 'TIME, WEATHER, EFFECTS AND MUSIC' menu, it is also in the Battlefield Intensity Presets. You can also add or remove the gas mid game.
> The gas will damage anyone who spends too long in it.
> Gas masks will protect you. But when you have the mask on it will restrict your vision and hearing.
> AI will put gas masks on, if they have them, when they are near gas.
> I have made gas masks from the following compatible: Contact, PRAIRIE FIRE, GLOBAL MOBILIZATION, Unsung, [NSW] BSAA Operator from Resident Evil Village, The Corporation DVK. Add them to your squad (wearing or in their gear) in the 'SELECT LOADOUTS AND SQUAD SIZE'. Let me know if you have any others you want me to include.
> In the GAMEPLAY OPTIONS menu or mid game you can:
>> Force the gas mask affects even if not wearing a compatible mask.
>> Remove the Gas Mask HUD. You still will not hear as well and a colour filter will be applied whilst the mask is on.
>> You can choose to have AI (all sides) immune to gas or auto apply a gas mask even if they don't have one in their inventory (enemies and independents only).

Fixed
> Got rid of the action 'Squad Exit Vehicle' appearing twice
> Improved turning on/off side mission markers during the mission
> Hopefully(!) fixed an issue where CSAT would sometimes turn up instead of Special Forces. It did not happen often, so only time will tell if I have really managed to fix this

Thanks for your patience, this one took a while!

ENVIRONMENT
> Thanks to Sysroot for helping me make THE ASSAULT work with Lushify. Lushify increases the size of tress and bushes. Find it in the 'Time, Weather and Effects' menu. You can also change it mid game.

DIFFICULTY
Ranks
As well as existing Preset Ranks which apply various difficulty options, you can now select to randomise your starting difficulty options and THE ASSAULT will automatically calculate your rank. The default is to start at the lowest Preset Rank.

Promotion
You now have some promotion options that you can change in the GamePlay Menu or mid-game:
>After Every Mission: Every time you complete a mission you are promoted
>Only When Winning: Every time you complete a mission and are winning you are promoted (default)
>Off: Promotion is disabled

Types of Promotion
There are three types of promotion:
>Go Up a Preset Difficulty: You are promoted up the Preset ranks. This is the default
>Add Random Difficulty Option: You get a random difficulty option applied
>Increase Enemy Size: The enemy size increase by one (although this does not actually increase your rank, only difficulty options do that) .

New Difficulty Option
This new difficulty option can be selected in the Game Play Options menu and during the game, and is also included in the Difficulty Presets:
> After every mission one of your supports (support/reinforce/re-supply) is temporarily removed.

HINT BOX
A few changes:
The size of enemies and independents is no longer indicated in the hint box. Instead when you open the ASSAULT OPTIONS GUI the current size will be highlighted in the GUI.

As well as 'On' (default) and 'Off' there is now an 'Extended' option. Extended includes information on all the Difficulty options that are on/off. The Extended hint box also appears whenever you open the ASSAULT OPTIONS GUI during the game.

QUICK FACTIONs
At HoodleCV's request I have added units from Unsung. I have included:
>US Army (late war)
>USMC (early war)
>Australia
>ARVN
>VC
>NVA
>Civilians
>Two wrecks

I noticed East Asia War 1937 has had quite a few updates:
> I've added Japanese and Russian units from the 1800s
> I've added armour to the 1937 units

OPTIONAL MOD
NightIntruder's excellent A1H SPAD Skyraider is now compatible with THE ASSAULT.
> I have added a selection of bombs and rockets to the pylons (which are empty by default).
> The ordnance is from PRAIRIE FIRE if you have PRAIRIE FIRE installed, otherwise it uses the ordnance that comes with NightIntruder's mod.
> The ordnance won't appear in the VIRTUAL GARAGE; it is spawned on the aircraft during the game.
> If you are using PRAIRIE FIRE or UNSUNG QUICK FACTIONs with this Mod installed it will be applied automatically.
> For the QUICK FACTIONs, at the moment the skin is randomised. I might change that later, not sure yet, as some skins are not Vietnam era, but most are.

MOD DETECTION
> The ASSAULT will now detect if you have the right mods installed for QUICK FACTIONS, Optional Mods etc.
> You won't be able to select a QUICK FACTION etc if you don't have the right mods installed.
> Optional QUICK FACTION mods (like NightIntruder's Skyraider) will be automatically included if you have the mods installed. You no longer get a pop up asking if you want to include them.

FIXED
I fixed or improved a bunch of things, including:
>Extraction works more reliably and you have to wait longer before you can extract
>RHS USMC Afghanistan: Was missing Special Forces
>Free support pop up now works properly when you turn it on/off mid-game

FIXED
> Re-aligned the text in some of the GUI
> If you change the location of the Final Objective you'll be prompted to change where you will insert
> If you make your squad bigger you'll be asked to change your transport vehicles - it won't let you start with a vehicle that is too small for your new larger squad
> If you select to place your Final Objective near a building but a building cannot be found (some maps don't have them) a random location will be selected instead or looping forever looking for a building

END GAME
For a while now I have wanted to have an alternative final Objective to 'Seize the Outpost (Change the Flag)', both to mix it up a little and because it does not make sense with some factions, like zombies or Aliens.

(Final) Objective
You can now change the Objective to:

'Search the Wreck for Survivors'. When you get to the wreck you will find a survivor who you must keep alive during the Final Mission. So far, I've included wrecks from vanilla, PRAIRIE FIRE, IRON CURTAIN, CUP Vehicles, CUP CWR3, IFA, TREBUCHET, TREBUCHET First Contact, TIOW, RHSAFRF, RHSGREF, 3CB Factions.

'Disarm the Device'. A harder version of 'Defuse the Bomb'. Failing the objective detonates a nuclear explosion, credits to Alias for his Nuke Script.

Final Mission
Instead of 'Repel the Counterattack' you can now select:

'Defeat the Boss'. Choose a Boss from a list or design your own. You can add extra Hit Points to the boss to make them tougher (although be careful, some become too tough, I have indicated which ones to avoid giving extra HP to). You can choose to have the Boss turn up on their own or with bodyguards.

'Extract'. Whilst the enemy counterattack call in an extraction vehicle to make your escape.

Also, if you have an enemy Hero selected they are guaranteed to appear in the Final Mission (unless you have selected Boss with no bodyguards).

I plan to add more Objectives and Final Missions in the future.

CHANGED
I've increased the Hit Points for zombies, if you choose the extra Hit Points option. Let me know if you think this makes them too tough.

I've added a pop-up in the 'TIME, WEATHER, EFFECTS AND MUSIC' menu to explain the difference in the Battlefield Intensity Presets. I've also added an extra Preset (Preset 4) which has constant flares, which is good for night ops without NVGs (but make sure you have 'Brighter Flares' or 'Blastcore Complied by Neetch' installed to boost the brightness of the flares).

I've added wind sound effects (credits to ALIAS) when there is a storm.

FIXED
Between 'Clear the Area of Enemy Units' and 'Repel the Counterattack' flares would stop dropping.

RE-SUPPLY
As promised I have re-worked re-suppy to make it more interesting:
> You call Re-Supply the same as Support and Reinforcements, with the same VICTORY POINT costs and Kill Streak effects
> Re-supply can be by land vehicle, helicopter, fixed wing (paradrop or land and unload) or boat
> You can unload the crates anywhere, but it only counts as a success (with a 5 VP reward) if it's within 50m of the Rally Point
> QUICK FACTIONs have been updated to include supply vehicles
> Full editing of supply vehicles available

SUPPORT COST
I have changed the default cost of calling support from 20 to 10. The cost goes up to 20 for the later difficulty levels and can also be changed in the game-play options. Selecting 'Double VICTORY POINT Penalties' in the game-play options no longer affects the cost of calling support.

NEW QUICK FACTIONS
> As requested by Nacho I have added 'Aegis' Russian, UK and 'Atlas' Australian troops in multiple camos.
> I've been really enjoying 'Conflict On The Savanna' so added an extra faction, ZIPRA, and a civilian faction using PRAIRIE FIRE.

MODULAR QUICK FACTIONS
I have made QUICK FACTIONs modular; they only require one or two mods/CDLC, the rest are optional. In this update, as well as making some mods optional that used to be required I have also added these optional features:

> Western Sahara CDLC can be used to improve the clothing of CUP Mali insurgents.
> You can add female snipers to the WW2 USSR side
> 'Flying Legends' and 'Secret Weapons Redloaded' add awesome alternative aircraft to WWII and Korean QUICK FACTIONs.
> 'DCX, DMOrchard's CDLC Crossover mod' adds vehicles and aircraft to GLOBAL MOBILIZATION (Germany and Denmark), Vietnam War (US/Australia/ARVN), and British QUICK FACTIONs in Aden and the Falklands.

BUGS
> Making this update I've found a few bugs that I have fixed (not worth listing them all).
> Making so many changes in this addition I would be surprised if no bugs snuck in. Let me know if you find any.
