Update 19

New Units:
Cappadocian Lancers and Cappadocian Horse Archers
- Pontus and Seleucid
- I might make more non-Greek units for Hellenistic Factions in the future

Balances:
- Spartan Light Cavalry: HP -5
- “Form Square” ability added to all hoplites units

Misc.
- Hellenic Melee Cataphracts: Description edited

Update: 29 Oct, 2014 @ 8:10am

Update 18

Bosporan Archers
- Pontus only also available to AI Cimmeria
- They are similar to the Cretan but they are even more heavily armoured and stronger in melee
- In reality they may also use pickaxe/xyston, to simplify matters I don’t make the xyston version

Balances:
Light Tarentine Cavalry: upkeep +10

Unit Groups:
- Thureos Spears add to AI Massilia and Cimmeria
- Thorakitai added to AI Massilia

Update: 28 Oct, 2014 @ 3:28am

Update 17

New Unit:
Late Citizen Cavalry
- Somewhat a theoretical unit like late Carthaginian Cavalry
- Fight with thureos and mail
- Available to all factions with citizen cav except Epirus and Sparta
- Still I want to keep Epirus as a “no mail” faction and Sparta weak on cav

Balances:
- Carthaginian Noble Cavalry: Train level increased to elite, spotting ability same as Companion Cav and Hippeus Lancers, Price +70
- Hippeus Lancers: HP -5

Variant edited:
- As so many units are edited, I am just listing them here:
- Mercenary Cretan Archers: (Linen)Linothorax removed
- Greek Shock Troopers: Shield Edited
- Late Greek Shock Troopers: Shield Edited, Clock added, Greaves edited
- Pikemen: Xiphos added
- Levy Pikemen: Xiphos added
- Thorax Pikemen: Xiphos added, helmet edited
- Greek Late Shock Troopers and Shock Troopers: Konoss helmet added
- Shield Bearers: Thracian Fancy helmet removed, konoss helmet added
- Thessalian Cavalry: Armour edited, back to normal lino. Xiphos added
- Hoplites, Thureos Hoplites, Thorax hoplite edited
- Sarissa Cavalry
- Peltasts
- Light peltasts
- Some Carthaginian Units
- Agrianian Axemen

WHY Editing so many Variant?
- Basically just making the men with the units look more different than others. And it’s because something weird I think which CA has done like there is only kopis but no xiphos to the units, no crested helmet for some units especially the missile one, only one or two kinds of helmet within a unit… etc.
- I may not edit all of them as I don’t use some of them. But apparently I have done a lot.
- It is also because I have my own logic on editing variants. For example, elite and well equipped units have mostly crested helmets.

Update 16

New Unit:
Greek Horse Archers
- Seleucid and Pontus only, also available to AI Cimmeria
- Other than Nomads and Eastern horse archers, some local Greek should also be trained as horse archers, although they might not in significant numbers

Balances:
- Foot Companions: Changed to Bronze armour, elite pikemen having linothorax is funny, and the actual armour that CA is portraying should be made of iron
- Periokoi Spears: Armour decreased. Since all the other Periokoi units are in leather/padded linothorax, I changed the armour of Periokoi Spear back to leather.

Variant edited:
- Spartan Veteran Hoplites: New Corinthian helmet with horizontal crest added, the one with side crest removed
- Spartan Hoplites: New Corinthian helmet added
- Royal Peltasts: Helmet added
- Foot companions: Helmet added, Xiphos added, greaves edited, armour changed
- Bronze Shield Pikemen: armour added, shield edited, xiphos added
- Pontic Royal Cav: Helmet added. Xiphos added, greaves edited
- Hellenic Royal Cavalry: Helmet added. Xiphos added, greaves edited, tunic added

- Hellenic Melee Cataphracts: Greaves edited
- Shield Bearers: Helemt added, shield edited, greaves edited
- Periokoi Spears and Peltasts: Basic linothorax removed
- Thorax Swordsmen: Helmet edited
- Thureos Horse Skirmishers: Konoss helmet added
- Officer cuirass is removed from some units
- Greaves and other variants edited for Bactrian units

Update: 26 Oct, 2014 @ 8:09am

Update 15

New Units:
Armoured Companion Cavalry and Ptolemaic Cavalry:
- 10 more armour than the unarmoured one
- Other stats are the same
- Available as General unit in Campaign (not tested)
- More expensive and higher upkeep than Agema Cavalry but I keep it as a feature for Seleucid

Balances:
- Hippeus Lancers: Charge -4
- Carthaginian Noble Cavalry: Morale +5
- Companion Cavalry: Armour -10, previously higher than Ptolemaic cav and as same as agema cav
- Citizen Thureos Spears and Swordsmen: ammo -1

Variant edited:
- Spartan decal improved: the previous one is actually not symmetrical, and the edge is smoother now
- Companion Cavalry: Helmets added, xiphos added
- Ptolemaic Cavalry: Helmets added, xiphos added, Cloak added, armour edited (they wear shorter sleeve tunic unlike Macedon Companion)
- Picked Hoplite: Helmets added, armour edited, greaves added

- Silver Shield Swordsmen: Helmet added
- Hippeus Lancers: xiphos added, helmet added, horse crest removed
- Royal Peltasts: xiphos added, shield edited

- MOST OF THE GREAVES, HELEMTS and ARMOURS OF ELITE UNIT and officers (excluding veteran units) has been edited, removing the basic bronze greaves

Update: 25 Oct, 2014 @ 4:26am

Update 14

Light Tarantine Cavalry
- Somewhat a more historical impression of Tarentine Horsemen
- A higher missile damage but worse melee ability than other Greek thureos Cav

Variant edited:
- All Sacred Band units: Original purple changed to historical Tyrian purple (RGB code from Wiki), personally I think it looks a lot better
- Carthaginian Noble Cavalry: Cloak added, greaves edited, colour edited, helmet added, new officer added
- Tarantine Cavalry: shield edited

Balances:
- Tarantine Cavalry: Charge +1, man entity +fast +Heavy, weapons buffed, reload +1, quick reload added, class changed to heavy, charge +12, melee attack +4
- Thureos Horse Skirmishers: Price and upkeep decreased

Update: 24 Oct, 2014 @ 10:30am

Update 13

New Unit:
Thureos Horse Skirmishers:
- Practically the Prodromoi in any Hellenistic army
- They are quite heavily armoured as horse skirmisher, especially with a thureos
- Great for both skirmishing and fighting light to medium troops in melee

Balances:
- ***“Shield Wall” add for all thureos spears like units
- Light Thureos Cavalry: Removed from Sparta roster, spacing changed (looser), Price increased, 450 to 510, weight decreased, to match vanilla Greek Light Cav (light)
- Citizen Thureos Swordsmen: Charge -4, melee defence -2
- Spartan Light Cavalry: weight decreased, to match vanilla Greek Light Cav (light)
- Late Libyan Peltasts: weight decreased, from very heavy to medium
- Late Carthaginian Citizen Infantry: Class changed from medium to heavy
- Hellenic Foot Cataphracts: Base armour +10

*Points on weight:
- Weight of vanilla citizen cav is medium, so my light cav have to be light.
- For infantry, the vanilla weight is somewhat troublesome, as I’ve said in previous update, Thureos Spears is medium while hoplite is very heavy so I’ve increase the weight of thureos spears to heavy in last update. For unit with cloth armour but also shield and helmets, I’ve made them medium.
- For skirmishers, there is another kind of logic. CA decided Syrian heavy archers to have a light weight, even Libyan peltasts.

P.S. Class/caste in the table and weight are separated values. So a heavy spearmen can actually have a light weight.

Variants edited:
- ALL SPARTAN GERNERALS (10 of them, in the campaign map and battle): All carry unpainted aspis now. All wear crimson cloak now. Armour added. (Bugs: the portrait may still wear white cloak when recruiting the general for the first time but this should be a universal bug for all factions.)
- Hellenic Cataphracts: Xiphos added
- Agema Cavalry: Man model replaced by Hellenic Cataphracts

Misc.
- Hellenic Melee Cataphracts recruitment fixed
- Light Thureos Cavalry: AI generation type changed from melee cav to missile cav, Thureos voice added

Update: 23 Oct, 2014 @ 1:03pm

Update 12

New Unit:
Hellenic Melee Cataphracts
- Seleucid and Bactria only
- Based on illustration I found on web, I also read some books suggesting some cavalrymen prefer long spear with shield to xyston

Balances: MAJOR BUFF to Greek/Hellenic spearmen and prices increase
- I think the melee attack of those spearmen is too low, making up a large gap between Greek spearmen and hoplites. The melee attack is also too low comparing to barbarian spears. This low melee attack makes them far from versatile in both skirmishing and melee fight. With no melee attack, they also cannot kill much inferior unit quickly. So I decide to buff them, using thorakitai as a top tier reference. The weight of spearmen form Vanilla is also ridiculously lighter than hoplites/infantry even though they are similarly equipped. I think the looser formation of spearmen has already given them disadvantage on facing cavalry charges.

- Thorakitai: morale +5, health -5
- Thureos Spears: Melee attack +5, weapon as same as Thorakitai, health +5, morale +5, price +40, weight increased
- Citizen Thureos Spears: Charge +6, weapon changed, melee attack +4, melee defence +4, morale +5, hp+5, price +60, upkeep increased
- Citizen Thureos Swordsmen: ammo +1 (same as spear version), melee defence -2, morale +5, charge +10, javelin changed, upkeep increased
- Periokoi Spears: ammo +3 (same as thureos spears), charge +4, melee attack +6, melee defence +3, javelin changed, weight increased, price +40, morale +5, health +5, upkeep decreased
- Late Carthaginian Citizen Infantry: Charge +6, melee attack +2, melee defence +2, morale +5, HP +5, weapon changed, price +120, upkeep increased
- Spartan Light Cavalry: upkeep increased
- Light Cretan Archers: Ammo -3, HP -5
- Hippeus Lancers: melee defence +5
- Hiding scalar edited for Greek citizen thureos units, same as other melee unit now
- Heros of Sparta: Charge +1
- Sacred Band Cavalry(SB Cav): Melee defence +6

Variant edited:
- Hellenic Foot Cataphracts: Model improved, using original tunic on the cav version, less tunic tearing
- Thureos spears: leather lino removed, lino added, helmet edited
- Periokoi spear and peltasts: leather lino removed
- A point on leather linothorax: I think the leather one is the Italian design, so I remove them all from Greek troops
- Cretan Archers: Linothorax added
- SB Cav: Helmet edited
- SB: Helmet edited
- SB standard bearer: Helmet edited
- SB officer: Pelt and tunic fixed. Helemt edited
- Carthaginian Noble Cav: Helmet added, swords added
- Greek Veteran Hoplites: Shields edited

Misc.
Voice added for Greek citizen thureos unit
Carthaginian voice added for Carthaginian archers

Update: 22 Oct, 2014 @ 12:53pm

Update 11

New Units:
Hellenic Foot Cataphracts
- Seleucid only
- Possibly the strongest melee/sword infantry in the game. With formation attack disabled, they can beat other sword units easily.
- Pikes and elite hoplites can stop them though if not flanked.

Spartan Marines
- Stronger version of Greek marines, very similar to barbarian swords.
- As being not particularly strong, they are better be used as a flanking unit.

Balances:
- Thorakitai: melee attack increased by 2
- Thureos Hoplites: buffed, higher charge and melee defence but lower armour than hoplites. They are “fast” unit technically in the table
- Spartan Light Cavalry :charge increase by 1, melee defence decreased by 4, price increased by 100
- Sacred Band and White Shield Hoplites: charge increased (4 and 1 respectively)
- Late Greek Shock Troopers: “Use the Whip” removed
- Heroes of Sparta: Melee attack decreased by 2
- Greek Marine: Price increased

- New Sacred band officer and standard bearer
- Spartan cav officer added (on Spartan Light Cav)
- Periokoi Peltasts: Linothorax added, xiphos added
- Greek_Officer: Xiphos added
- Carthaginian White Shield Hoplites: Shield rim colour changed
- Libyan Peltasts: Crest Helmet and swords added

Update: 21 Oct, 2014 @ 7:51am
