Update 9

New Units:
Greek Marine Corps
- Simply Greek hoplites with swords. They have decent attack, armour and charge for the price but not very high melee defence.
- Ineffective against legion head on, better be used as a flanking unit.

Citizen Thureos Swordsmen
- A very good and cheap flanking unit. They can hold stronger troops for a long time.

Balances:
- Citizen Thureos Spears: javelin as same as thureos spears and thorakitai now (still go more ammo though
- Greek Veteran Cavalry: Price increased
- Thorakitai: charge increased by 2, health increased by 5, price decreased by 40
- Weight fixed for numbers of citizen and missile units

Misc.
Citizen Thureos Spears is now available to more Hellenic factions (except Sparta)

New unit cards:
Greek Shock Troopers
Citizen Thureos Spears

A point on unit card: I can now do simple editing on unit cards by paint.net.

Update 7

Major Changes: Like the previous update, I’ve change the weapon of the following unit:
- (Carthage)Car_hoplites, late Car_hoplites, (Greek) gre hoplites, Spartan hoplites and scale thorax hoplites
- I’ve done tests with car_hoplites and gre hoplites vs Marian legion, the hoplites tended to kill 20 men more than the legion before the legion routed (I counter charged the legion then activate phalanx).
- I think it is ok, like pike phalanx, I don’t think people should expect a sword unit to beat a hoplite phalanx head on. Hoplites are not only spearmen, they are designed to beat other infantry.

New units
Greek Thueros Cavalry:
- A light Celtic Greek unit. They are good at chasing down light skirmishers and scouting. With their ability, they can easily escape from heavier troop.

Carthaginian Archers:
- From books I’ve read Carthage still fielded her own citizen archers with recurve bow in their homeland. With recurve bow, they get 150 range.
- Although they are armoured, unlike the Cretan, they only fight with dagger in melee.

Unit edited:
Heros of Sparta: 160 men now, stat buffed, strongest but most expensive hoplites now

(Carthage)Noble Cav: charge increased, melee attack and defence increased
Hippeus Lancers: charge increased

Variant Edited
Spartan officer: Armour changed, red cloak only, unpainted shield only, xiphos only
Hero of Sparta: Armour changed
Royal Spartan: Armour changed
Royal Spartan Pikemen: Red cloak only, Armour changed, helmet edited, xiphos only

Points on Spartan:
- The armour I’ve made here is still somewhat custom made. I combine the greek officer cuirass with the Italian tunic. The Hellenic tunic that CA made always tear the cuirass above in the official variant editor. However the Italian tunic usually fit quite well. As the Italian tunic is already included in the Hellenic tunic definition, I think it is ok to use the Italian tunic.
- For the shield, historically Spartan shields were issued and unpainted, I might change all the Spartan shields to the unpainted one in the future.

Hannibal’s Veteran Spearmen: All in white tunic and shield now.

Misc.
(Carthage)Noble Cav, Sacred Band and Sacred Band Cav now available as general unit so they can appear early in the campaign.

cdir_military_generator_unit_qualities_tables: edited for all units I’ve made

Thorakitai removed from Epirus

Update 6

VERY IMPORTANT: weapon change for mail and elite hoplites unit.
In this update I changed the weapon of the following units:
- Hannibal’s Vet Sp, Sacred Band, Bactrian Royal Guards, Etruscan hoplites and Hero of Sparta.
- The major change is that weapon damage is changed from 29 to 30.
- 29 and 30 makes a HUGE different when they fight with legions or other inf with 60 health. The kill rate will increase a lot with 30 weapon damage.
- The reality is that weapon damage has a higher impact than melee attack.
- The change can makes those elite hoplites MUCH more cost effective.
- I think CA knows this as they give Athens’s throax hoplite and picked hoplites 30 weapon damage, giving Athens’s the selling point (also Spartan actually).
- Shield Bearer: I didn’t change the weapon damage of it as it has extra armour already.
- Late Carthaginian Hoplites: I didn’t change the weapon dam of it but maybe I will do so in the next update. It is a mail hoplite unit but relative cheap and very cost effective. However, the 29 weapon damage really making not strong enough (at least to me) when they are facing Roman infantry. If I change the w.dam of it I will increase the unit price to 680-690 for balance sake.

New units
Late Libyan Peltasts
- Some old RTW mods claim this unit existed in the Third Punic War and some claimed that Carthage got thorakitai. Im not convinced that Carthage got skirmishing spearmen like thorakitai, the Libyan spearmen are famous for their mobility as well as fighting capability and they don’t throw javelin before engaging in melee.
- I would rather make thorakitai available only to Greek/Hellenistic states.
- This unit is kind of swordsmen + Peltasts unit . Also, this may be kind of a theoretical unit.
- For this unit the main feature is their melee capability and their mail armour. The mail gives them great protection against all unit ingame. Their (long)swords give them great melee damage.
- I also give them the shield wall ability so they fight more like a swordman in melee.
- OP? maybe yes comparing to other peltasts but not to other units as a whole. Their melee attack is not very high comparing to sword infantry and they are a 120 men unit only. They are already very expensive as a peltast unit.

Spartan Veteran Hoplites
- I add this one because like hoplites and elite hoplites, there is a huge gap in between.
- Metal curiass hoplites is also missing (other than the elite one).
- This unit has stat very close to Royal Spartan but with lower price.
- OP? NO. Spartan, like Roman, the only strength is infantry and Sparta even lacks elephant and shock cav in the roster, so they need strong infantry like this with cost effective stat. The price is still high though (1080).
- In campaign they appear with Spartan hoplites. I really don’t like the idea that stronger but period unit appear later ingame like what CA has done. The higher cost should already pay the price.

Variant edited
Libyan infantry: swords added, helmet edited
Spartan Hoplites: helmet added
Royal Thorax Swordsmen: cloak edited
Royal Spartan: Helmets added, red cloak only, unpainted shield only (You know why)
Heroes of Sparta: red cloak only, unpainted shield only
Ptolemaic Cavalry: Cloak added

Misc.
Thorakitai is now available to factions which got thureo spears in their roster. However, as Epirus has no mail unit, maybe I will delete thorakiai from it in the next update.

Attribute group changed for Bactrian King’s Cavalry, same as Aspis Companion Cav now.
S
Sacred Band Cavalry armour reduced, same armour type as Sacred Band (hoplites) now.

Next Update:
Car_Archers (?)
Thureo Cav(?)
Again, I really don’t like the idea that stronger but period unit appear later ingame like what CA has done. Maybe I will make a lot changes in the aspect in the future.

Update: 15 Oct, 2014 @ 9:58am

Update 5

New Units
Late Carthaginian Cavalry:
- I could add a metal cuirass version of Car Cav but I rather do a mail on with thureos. This is kind of a theoretical unit. Hellenic Cavalry with thureos did exist but I don’t have any sources showing that they wore mail.
- Theoretically this kind of cavalrymen existed in individuals but in very little number, perhaps for very wealthy soldiers.

Unit type changed:
Aspis Companion Cavalry:
- It is a missile cav now. I think CA modelled it after the late Macedonian cav which carry javelin but make it more like a melee cav than a missile one. They did expect skirmishing with their javelin.
- Shield variant is also added and new attribute group is created for this change.

Variant edited
Tarantine Cavalry: linothorax added, shield added, xipho added. I tried to add cloak but the leather linothorax don’t fit the Celtic and companion cloak.

Late Carthaginian infantry helmet variants edited.
Late Carthaginian Citizen Infantry helmet variants edited.
Hannibal’s veteran spearmen helmet variants edited.
Greek javelinmen shield and helmet edited.
Thorakitai helmet and armour variant added.

Apparently I can only add maximum 5 variations in each category, so I edited some of the variations as I added more than 5 before.

Misc.
Cavalry hiding scalar fixed.
Late Carthaginian infantry description edited.
Sacred Band cavalry attribute edited.

Next update:
- Heavy Libyan peltasts?

Update: 14 Oct, 2014 @ 9:50am

Update 4

New Units:
Light Cretan Archers
- The Cretan archers are usually portrayed as unarmoured archers but to distinguish it from ordinary archers, I keep the helmet on them.
- Although they have less armour, they fire faster and have more abilities

Greek Veteran Cavalry
- In reality linothorax and metal cuirass are usually mixed in a unit as the troop provide their own gear.
- However, I don’t want to take an average armour value if I mix the two armour types. Concerning the style of vanilla, I put it as a separated unit.

Bactrian King’s Cavalry
- It is a bow-lance unit. This set of gear is historical.
- In the game they hold their lance unless enemy gets in firing range.
- They are very powerful but I don’t think they are too OP.

Variant added:
Late Carthaginian Infantry: Helmet variant added

Cretan Archers: Ammo bag added. Dagger removed, sword only now and thus increase in melee attack and damage

Sacred Band Cavalry: Horse changed, crest of original heavy horse removed

Next Patch:
Vet Car Cav(?)
Late Gre Vet Cav(?)
