Just a quick note to say that this mod is now deprecated but the idea lives on as a Game Option in DB's Civ VI Gold .

Thanks for checking out my mod and giving me feedback! I actually did create other mods to deal with each of those aspects you mentioned:

Soli Deo Gloria opens up religion to all civs

No Religious Sea-Spies removes the ability to park missionaries on the water to monitor troops

Apostle Specialists makes it harder to get Debaters

Inquisitors: Only One Cleanse reduces the cleansing power of the Inquisitors, so that they are more of a defensive blocker unit

Also theological combat is not well polished since debater is such a game changer and inquisitors just removes most of your religion.

The better blance games mod tested for 2 days on how it is without removing heretic and games had two biggest problems. 1 It forces civilizations that are not religous go for religon where they have no bonuses and those who didn't just utalizes their non-religous bonus. 2 Missionaries are used to spy enemy military. The time was so contreversial the korean MP league stoped using the mod until it was fixed

Why not just use military units to protect your religious units? A mod that makes the religion mechanic dominate every game doesn't sound like much fun.

Hi Truiz!

I get where you're coming from. My original idea was to grant a relic anytime a religious unit was killed by condemn heretic (which makes the dynamic more realistic... relics come from apostles who were killed by thugs and princes, not those who lost a debate to another religion, sect, or heresy). However, I could not find anything in the mod-able code that would permit me to change condemn heretic in any way... other than to turn it off.

Combined with other a la carte mods listed in Soli Deo Gloria you'll have a good balance of religious victory being viable, but not overpowered. Where the counter to religion is religion... not military.

Cool feature, I think it is a bit too much though but I agree that it is rather stupid that a Martyr doesn't get his relic from being killed by a military unit rather than losing in theological combat. Kind of makes no sense honestly.
