Sadly causes the unit icons for settlers (and maybe other types?) to become incorrectly shaped and glitched-looking. Hopefully this is fixed soon..

I have created an extension mod: Cohort - Dynamic Unit Names - Cooks
* When a unit is destroyed before it can be named, this mod does not provide a null reference error

@SeelingCat feel free to include this in your mod if its to your liking.

Very nice mod! Is there a German translation?
Findway 31. juli 2022 kl. 7:17
thanks for this great idea.
Sealous 20. maj 2022 kl. 7:38
do you have vasa as a name for swedish ships
Grillchef Norbert 17. dec. 2021 kl. 13:16
I really love the idea of this mod but basically all land units are simply called "1st/2nd/3rd/etc. unit of town" which is really boring when compared to naval units (like my random khmer Galley called "The Hagfish") - is this intended and if yes are there any ways to make it more interesting?
Delport Breckland 18. aug. 2021 kl. 4:15
Darn. Well, thank you for trying
SeelingCat  [ophavsmand] 13. aug. 2021 kl. 15:41
@Matt - unfortunately, this is base game limitation that I have not discovered a workaround for.
Delport Breckland 12. aug. 2021 kl. 20:38
I noticed that units can no longer be renamed because this mod already renamed them. Is it possible to change that? I'd like to be able to alter titles to reflect the unit's history or promotions, but I also like the base mod helping differentiate normal units.

Just noticed y ship was called the Pokiehl, nice little tribute there :)
Mashsmouth 29. juli 2021 kl. 22:42
this mod is a dream come true :)

The German and Japanese navies should have the prefixes SMS and IJN respectively since their leaders represent their imperial periods (plus they sound cooler).
SeelingCat  [ophavsmand] 25. juni 2021 kl. 10:56
@Sharkologist - it's a base-game problem; they were changed when the new units (line infantry, etc.) were added but the text was not changed
kyroshill 23. juni 2021 kl. 16:12
@Sharkologist I can't be this mod. I don't have it and have noticed the same issue. 2 bombards doesn't trigger the Eureka.
Sharkologist 6. maj 2021 kl. 8:59
Is there any chance that this mod is causing the game not to recognise upgraded units for the purposes of eurekas? E.g. "own 2 bombards" for siege tactics (I think). I upgraded catapults/trebuchets into the bombards and didn't get the eureka. Same for the "own three musketmen" eureka. I'm just wondering, since the units retain their original name, e.g. "1st catapults of X" even once they have been upgraded.
NuDDen 30. apr. 2021 kl. 16:33
@SeelingCat - Small typo: 1st Man-At-Armss
Akkadon 23. apr. 2021 kl. 23:03
@SeelingCat Thanks for the quick answer! I guess I'll have to weigh whether I really need to be able to name units myself, this beats doing it all by hand.
Great job by the way, this really helps make units feel less generic!
SeelingCat  [ophavsmand] 23. apr. 2021 kl. 15:14
@Akkadon - the game interprets units that have had their name changed as having a nickname and thus you cannot rename them (so, the latter in your question).
Akkadon 23. apr. 2021 kl. 13:29
Silly question (probably), but what does "Units that have names assigned to them cannot receive nicknames" mean exactly? Can I still rename units manually or are the units "stuck" with a name once it's been assigned to them?
SeelingCat  [ophavsmand] 4. apr. 2021 kl. 12:00
@rootin tootin lootin putin (lol) - That's a great idea - I'll definitely have a look into that!
rootin tootin lootin pootin 3. apr. 2021 kl. 16:50
Dunno if you're still open to developing for this mod but it'd be awesome if barbarians used their tribe names in the new barbarian tribes mode
Sir Kärppä 21. feb. 2021 kl. 10:31
Great, gotta try this one!

Thank you Seeing Cat. Your wisdom is profound.
.FireSoul_ 9. feb. 2021 kl. 10:58
Thank you SeelingCat. :) I'll give it a go!
SeelingCat  [ophavsmand] 9. feb. 2021 kl. 8:30
@HardzFire_ - It'll use whatever the city name is at the time the unit is created.

.FireSoul_ 9. feb. 2021 kl. 4:31
When a unit is created including the <city_name> does it use the current city name or the original city name. I ask because i always change my city names.
saintlouis.studio 7. feb. 2021 kl. 12:58
Bravo.
Laguette 1. feb. 2021 kl. 8:51
Awesome, thanks!
SeelingCat  [ophavsmand] 1. feb. 2021 kl. 8:38
@laguette - the numbers are assigned in order of production and, once assigned, stay the same until the unit is upgraded or turned into a corp/army/etc.
Laguette 1. feb. 2021 kl. 8:06
In-game, are the numbers for the regiments and such set in stone, or do they change with the unit, be it in order of production or random?
Harken 1. feb. 2021 kl. 7:46
Gno
Matternous 31. jan. 2021 kl. 13:34
The description reads, "May cause desync issues in Multiplayer." Is this backed up by actual bug reports for this specific mod or just a general issue that mods can cause in multiplayer?
Long Fish 30. jan. 2021 kl. 0:02
When using with CQUI, the unit icon become bugged. any one has the same issue?

SeelingCat  [ophavsmand] 14. jan. 2021 kl. 12:13
@ebcott - It should be possible! You'd want to insert them into SC_Cohort_Unique_Names just as you mentioned (with a high enough LoadOrder) and add the names to your Localization/Text file as well. Assuming it's a Naval UU then that should be all you need to do.
epique95 14. jan. 2021 kl. 7:37
Thx!!
ebcott 13. jan. 2021 kl. 19:16
First off, great mod! I have a modded civ and generic names seem to work fine for its unique units that aren't corps/fleets or armies/armadas. I know someone asked if this will work with modded civs and you said that "it should work, yes! They just won't have any civ-specific names for ships, etc." This is what I have observed. Does that also mean that it is not possible to manually add new names for the civ-unique units to SC_Cohort_Unique_Names so to support names for my civ-unique units?
Pheonix 7. jan. 2021 kl. 6:14
Thanks! Like!

This is worthy of I M M E R S I O N.
beedham95 31. dec. 2020 kl. 12:13
Would it be possible to make this compatible with the 'gift it to me' mod, to see the names you have to save and reload.
aerospace 30. dec. 2020 kl. 3:51
Thx!
SeelingCat  [ophavsmand] 29. dec. 2020 kl. 21:44
@HappySJ - for the moment yes unfortunately. If you'd like to contribute a translation for another language, however, I'd be happy to include it!
HappySJ 29. dec. 2020 kl. 21:25
only english name ?
bongsan2010 19. dec. 2020 kl. 2:54
That was Wildlife. That would be cool, thanks. Loving your mods.
SeelingCat  [ophavsmand] 18. dec. 2020 kl. 19:46
@bongsan20102010 - What mod were you using? I can see about adding them as exclusions from the naming conventions
