Love the boats and lets play series Aavak, been watching you on factorio also, iv learned quite abit about both games from watching you guys + Ireland Gaming, apprechiate the help tremendiously I still got a long long long way to go though, used to know how to play a good chunk... and updated game and now my old knowledge is omost non existant.

still trying to wrap my head around certain new key features
never could get submarines or airplanes to work for me, without some....catastrophic....failures ( some I mean to the point where I gave up and mainly just Ships only now till I can learn more about how to contstruct proper ones,my airplanes dont fly without screaming Mayday Mayday and my submarines have the submerging powers of a dead whale in ocean surf. my ships work good though thanks to you guys :D
only 342 hrs in this game... and I know barly 9-13% of the game it seems like.

There seems to be an issue with the AI for this ship. It only activates for me during a battle that is started on the map, and cannot be turned on or off manually (I like to control ship movment while AI handles guns). Just wondered if it was set up this way, or if its a bug?

Also, if any of you intend to use this ship for the mid-game. I recommend fixing up a few key weaknesses at least. Firstly, just aft the Main Cannon, the Engine Compartment contains the Engines. Unfortunately, that's only 1 layer of Wood Protection in that area. I recommend building up around there to fix that particular weakness. Ammunition Storage mid-ships should be re-enforced a bit too. There's space to add some metal armor in most storage compartments. The Engine Bay would probably have to be extended outwards to increase the armor (similar to what I did). What I did still doesn't fix the weak point near the engine, though, not completely. I still need to work on that.

This is a really nice design. I took it, used it for a few fights, then saw some upgrade potential. I'm thinking of using this hull for a large portion of the campaign, very efficient design.

Here's an image of some of the Tweaks I've done. I'm going to expand the Shield system further, and most likely tweak the armor layout a bit to add some more protection. Surprisingly, with all that extra stuff, she still moves fast!

So just spawned this thing into my campaign without testing it like a moron. AI won't turn on just blinks back to off instantly for me? Any ideas?

Wow this boat... is amazing.

It's very stable and idk how it can not roll over with all that recoil being piled on it. Great Job!!

A modified version of this is now my frigate class ship in my fleet!! Oh ya really funny names for the cannon AI. This thing can take on a moray now costing only around 450k RP

Can only ever get my ships to skim at 2.5 to 5. 5 is blistering in comparison c.c
Wish it was easier to make the bloody things in that regard...

Does this ship twerk for anyone else? (Im behind on the campain series :KScared: ) Its bad enough sometimes the big cannon wont fire cause it cant track fast enough :steamsad:

@Tielah Passey It's probably the range of engagement, it could be trying to put some distance between itself and the enemy to enter into its preferred broadside range. Take a look at that setting on the AI and see if that’s the case.

Faustian Device A friend of mine actually tried building one. It wasn't an exact replica by any standards, and it didn't sail very well, but he made it. If he still has the file for it, I'll ask him if he wants to upload it.

I got the Thunderling Mk4 is up and running. The “FMJ” version is pretty heavy and the forward AAA cannon has again be completely rebuilt. Seriously I’ll get it to where I want it eventually. I had to leave in a lot of wood on the design to keep it from being a submarine or suffering an even larger cut in speed. :tl2engineer:

Are you trying to make a railbomber? or a railmotar? or just a railgun? And the larger and longer a shell is, the more charge you need to get it going fast.. so you may have too big of a shell..

Perhaps in the future, you could experiment with some cannons involving 8m shells? If they on't work properly though it would be geatly appreciated to know, as im having trouble with 2 projectiles comming out of a 8guage single barreled rail cannon but i dont know why.

@The_Enderwolf1313 I realized this is for early game where resources are limited but since the resources are limited you want to spend as little as possible on repairs. This could be made more efficient by using shields. Str 1 Reflect cost very little power and bounce a fair number of shots.
It could also use a flare laucher, the type found on the T180 Amphibious Tank

Did someone say armor? I've been playing in the campagin with the Thunderling and armor is something it really needed. It's center of mass kinda goes up easy and splits the entire fessel in two.

Behold! The Thunderling Mk2! its not a total metal monster yet, just some light cladding to make it less of a fire hazard. Also a light auto cannon is added on the back, the Thunderling has some issues when your behind it. Other tweeks thought the ship, mostly small things.

Just 1 suggestion: Even if it's an obviously recouce-efficient design, it may just be better to armor a few places with metal, like the forward-facing turret blocks, and sections projectiles will focus (ammo/ai) on the outside as well.
The experience from fighting constructions out of wood is that you can without problem "instakill" them with a good shot at the ai.

A fine looking build indeed, too bad it's made out of wood. Wood isn't for serious builds, most custom cannons use HE rounds, tearing you apart in a few volleys.

Here is the Weapons Retool I was talking about. I took a screen shot of each weapon's stats so you can compare. In short, the main cannon fires 3 times faster, much less recoil, the quad cannon fires almost twice as fast and now has offset firing, and the AAA is a bullet hose.

It’s a pity you cut out the part where the Thunderling shot down the flying squirrel with the main cannon in the video. That was an amazing shot.
I’m going to add a few modifications, mostly to the weapon systems (namely the AAA) would you like to see the finished product when I’m done AAvak?

Last two uploads aren't painted as they'll be my first structures in the upcoming season 4 campaign, so it fits better witht he role-play that it's a rag-tag fleet to begin with. They'll get painted as I build up the fleet and upgrade the ships.
