I'm late to the game here but thank you for the mod and explanations on how to do this yourself. I'm usually pretty decent at these types of tactical games but the beginning is just atrocious with the panic settings.

Not sure if this is only me but nobody gets promoted anymore

Yep, just follow the notes and file path above in the DIY modding. You can modify any of the configurations I set.
SeanyKrabs 29 Apr, 2020 @ 5:25pm
is there anyway to customize the mod's settings?
Scuba Steve  [author] 29 Apr, 2020 @ 11:19am
Pretty much. Let's just say missing shots will be a thing of the past.
SeanyKrabs 29 Apr, 2020 @ 9:36am
is this the mod that makes like all of my dudes have 100% aim?
pfcole 7 Oct, 2018 @ 7:14pm
OMG, thank you, thank you, thank you, sir... I don't know how I missed this most awesome mod
Scuba Steve  [author] 8 Aug, 2018 @ 9:09pm
It is a way to remove or add a config line. At the start I thought it was necessary to remove a line that I was overriding and add the new line I wanted. I later learned I could just set a new value on the original line to get the desired effect. That said there are some items or characteristics that allow you to add traits to them they didn't have out of the box.

What does the + / - mean in the ini?
Scuba Steve  [author] 8 Jul, 2018 @ 5:44pm
Thanks Mr.Pink. I've seen a few other moders offer handy links and information and wanted to replicate that in my mods. It makes for a hassle when releasing a new series of the mods but that is rare and is totaly worth the trouble. I even use them to quick reference my mods when responding to a comment.

Just wanted to say I really like the chart above for the mods. Makes it so much easier. 2 thumbs up.

WOTC Compatible versions of my A Better' MODS have been released!!!

A lot of additions were made by WOTC that made upgrading a few of these a bit more tedius.. I'm looking at You, A Better Arsenal!

Thank you all for your patience. In the interest of getting these out ASAP I didn't get to do the full amount of play testing that I would like. Please send me your feedback. (please refrain from commenting that these mods are too OP as that is their intent. That said, if I didn't dile back the LITE versions enough then pass those notes along.)

--- A special thanks to reCLUsive7 for sponsoring this work.
Mr. Wolfwood 10 Sep, 2017 @ 6:36pm
keep up the good work!
Scuba Steve  [author] 4 Sep, 2017 @ 10:12pm
Just had awesome subscriber gift me the DLC so that I can get these mods updated. You can thank, :steamhappy: reCLUsive7 :steamhappy: for his sponsorship of the update of these mods. What a crazy cool XCOM gamers community we have!

An additional shout out goes to Spartan A291 and Force2reckon for their generous offers to pick up the DLC for the cause as well.

I expect to get WOTC compatible version of this mod within the next 2 weeks.
Scuba Steve  [author] 4 Sep, 2017 @ 7:37pm
Wow, thanks for the offer Spartan A291! I have had to respond to threads on my entire collection of mods stating that they were not yet compatiable with WOTC due to my being too cheap. I didn't realize how that must have come off as I have a few generous souls such as yourself offering to gift the DLC for me if I'll update these mods. I humbly accepted the first offer I got and then continued reading my other comments for this mod and others only to find your offer and another's. I'll keep you posted if the other offer falls through and see if you are still willing. Either way it looks like a WOTC compatible version of this mod and the others is in the near future.
Blade SongDrake 3 Sep, 2017 @ 9:30pm
I seem to have a UI bug, I've brought both squad size upgrades, and they are gliched badly, I can't remove or even see the two extra people in the squad selection, how do I fix this?
Spartan A291 1 Sep, 2017 @ 10:55pm
Sounds like a bug, most I've ever seen is a single rank up from a soldier getting one to two kills. I've seen some quirks involving the promotion screen itself but that was with max rank soldiers and likely an issue with the Long War Perk Pack than this mod. That said, assuming the author's reading as they've been commenting - would you be ammenable to being gifted WOTC in the interest of converting the mod collection for the DLC? Assuming that Pavonis isn't just sitting around doing nothing we're probably going to have Long War back within the next few weeks or months, and admittedly dreading the idea of trying to take on the not!zombie hordes with soldiers that miss one out of every four shots on higher difficulties.
EdofLegend 1 Sep, 2017 @ 1:24pm
@Galhamon
Don't worry too much. This version is meant to be hilariously over-the-top and just plain silly. If you're looking for something more balanced, check out the lite version of the mods. They work just fine on Vanilla and LW, and provide only slight buffs to the game mechanics. Those are the versions I typically use unless I'm playing on Legendary.
Galhamon 1 Sep, 2017 @ 12:46pm
This is honestly way too overpowered in my opinion. Either that or it's having strange issues with some other mods that I have. Long story short I can get 2 to 3 kills on one character and they level up like 3-4 times. Something about having two Colonel's by the second mission is just not fun for me.
Scuba Steve  [author] 31 Aug, 2017 @ 9:00pm
sorry, too cheap right now to buy the new DLC at it's current price. Once it gets reasonable I'll pick it up and update my mods to work with it.
wkalbe 29 Aug, 2017 @ 4:43pm
Please Please update
Mimic Bait 29 Aug, 2017 @ 9:51am
any chance this is getting update for war of the chosen?
Scuba Steve  [author] 14 Aug, 2017 @ 12:57pm
oooh that would make things tough. Playing the super soldiers against the super soldiers my mod creates sounds like fun. I'll have to look for that mod and try it out.
Dęąth Viper 11 Aug, 2017 @ 10:47pm
that one mod that is anti xcom. hostile territory
Scuba Steve  [author] 11 Aug, 2017 @ 5:18pm
Where does that happen, frizzeldian12? I'm trying to think of what mission that occurrs. Of course if there are mods out there that can put a soldier character type on the opposing side then you would be correct.
Dęąth Viper 19 Jul, 2017 @ 2:02pm
Just know that if you have enemy mods that are human they will get the buffs too
Chucho_Dereen 19 Jul, 2017 @ 1:40pm
If I surrender with my next attempt at finishin Xcom2 I will give this a try, seems a little OP but hell with it.
Scuba Steve  [author] 30 Jun, 2017 @ 10:21pm
in the lite version i didn't mess with the cool downs as much so definitely give it a try.
Dęąth Viper 16 Jun, 2017 @ 9:09pm
so the lite version, does this mean there is a cool down for abilities??
Scuba Steve  [author] 16 Jun, 2017 @ 8:41pm
Yea... with no cool down for reaper you can almost clear a map with one soldier... I get a lot of heat for the OP'ness of these mods but everytime that evil chuckle slips out when I one man a map it's all worth it. (I also created LITE versions of these mods for those who want the OP turned down from 11)
Vadenveil 15 Jun, 2017 @ 1:58pm
i find the fast hands thing to be hilarious since you can literally solo missions with it and face off gets really stupid XD
Dęąth Viper 28 May, 2017 @ 5:55am
can you make it so that abilities cd are still there please? Its annoying that the hostile territory sniper can have infinite quick hand and kill all my soldiers
Scuba Steve  [author] 8 Feb, 2017 @ 11:18am
I have released a LW2 compatible version of this mod at https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=859736263
Scuba Steve  [author] 7 Feb, 2017 @ 8:54pm
Thanks to a great contributor on Reddit I have cracked the issue with making my mod LW2 compatible. I need to push out a newer mod with a creation date later than LW2's release so that my mod can override the LW2 settings. I'll be working on this and should have a new version released soon. I'll link the new mod here when I get it done.
HybreedPonda 4 Feb, 2017 @ 7:16pm
I hope you succeed :)
Scuba Steve  [author] 24 Jan, 2017 @ 2:05pm
Thanks for great feedback and compliments. I did a good deal of playing with load order and the SDK tool and so far I have been unsuccessful in getting my mod to work with LW2. I even tried creating a specific mod to apply boosts to LW2 config files but still no joy. I'll keep at it as now it seems like a challenge.
no 23 Jan, 2017 @ 7:06am
cool, thanks for the response
Scuba Steve  [author] 22 Jan, 2017 @ 6:24pm
From what I've heard my other two mods are not working with LW2 so I'm guessing this one won't either. I'm just sitting down to do some testing and see what I can do to make them compatible
no 22 Jan, 2017 @ 6:10am
You've probably heard this at least once on every mod, but is this LW2 compatible?

I've been looking at your mods (installed "A Better Start" and loved it) and this one reminded me of Evil Overlord list rule 56: "My Legions of Terror will be trained in basic marksmanship. Any who cannot learn to hit a man-sized target at 10 meters will be used for target practice."

Adding immediately with "A Better Arsenal" too!
Scuba Steve  [author] 9 Jan, 2017 @ 6:28pm
Thanks for the feedback. I appreciate the second vote for the "20% better rookie". I'll take a look at what that means in changes. I might separate out the mod and break off the SoldierSkills enhancements into a "A Better Proving Ground" and the CharacterStats into a "A Better Recruit" with the ability to scale the enhancement.
NoodleLover 9 Jan, 2017 @ 6:15pm
I tried this mod because I know that XCOM2 is much more difficult than XCOM:EW. But it made my game way too easy :( Since you decreased some skill cooldowns to 0, this breaks the balance. I just slashed tons of enemies using no-cooldown-ripper in almost every battle. Mobility is way too high too.
Thanks for your effort, but I think people will enjoy more on '20% enhanced rookie'
Scuba Steve  [author] 9 Jan, 2017 @ 5:59pm
Not sure what the complaint is about, Muhaha. Is it that you think I tagged the mod incorrectly? "soldier class" tag from what I see compared to other mods with that tag is appropriately applied to this mod. The mod changes the both the SoldierSkills and CharacterStats files. If the complaint was that you were looking for a mod with a new class defined then this isn't your mod.
Pain 7 Jan, 2017 @ 1:04pm
i am looking for a soldier class and then i find this mod..... it is a fake!
Scuba Steve  [author] 3 Jan, 2017 @ 8:03pm
No worries, Slicerness. I take your interest enough to comment on the mod as a compliment, but also appreciate the apology too. The change wasn't as tedious as I thought and I did it for all 3 of my mods that had that limitation. Thanks for the follow up.

Cheers and Happy New Years
Slicerness 3 Jan, 2017 @ 3:15pm
Thank you for the change, and my apologies for going off at you like that. Hope you had a great holiday!

New update expands A Better Rookie to work at all game difficulty levels. Enjoy!
