Maybe I could one day, but I haven't touched this mod in years and I don't have enough time at the moment to go back and pick it back up again. But if I end up playing Shogun 2 again, perhaps.

You could get the Rusted Pack File Manager (RPFM) and open the .pak file, it should be easy to find the table that has the technology changes and delete it. Then save it as your own filename you want to call it, and load that instead.

can you make a version with faster research ?
Volcano  [author] 17 Feb @ 2:14pm
This mod doesn't alter anything about what the AI can or cannot build, it just adjusts their broad focus (how much funds they commit to economic, military, tech type buildings, etc).
Winterland 17 Feb @ 8:02am
Hey man, I'm sorry if this had been ask before but did you allow the ai to build a citadel?
Bc I'm in mid game right now and I'm seeing alot of castles. I don't want to be in late game and seeing citadel bc that will f up the food supply.
Volcano  [author] 5 Dec, 2024 @ 10:11pm
Yes, it should affect all campaigns.
Phantom Menace 5 Dec, 2024 @ 9:19pm
affect normal campaign too?
Volcano  [author] 26 Aug, 2024 @ 3:12pm
Unfortunately no, you can't actually control what the AI buys beyond basic unit class type (melee infantry, ranged infantry, cavalry).
schumacher.equip 25 Aug, 2024 @ 9:20am
Could you make a mod where the AI only recruits shogunal and imperial line infantry units, cavalry with carbines, cannons and Gatling guns, in the navy the AI also recruits English, French and US battleships and adds historically accurate bayonets for all factions?
Asuka 15 Mar, 2024 @ 6:55pm
ai hire more samurais?
Volcano  [author] 16 Oct, 2023 @ 6:00pm
Yes it is, I use that one too. :steamsunny:
Raven 16 Oct, 2023 @ 4:26pm
is this mod compatible with expanded japan the one that adds all the new regions?
Volcano  [author] 18 Apr, 2023 @ 2:16pm
I couldn't find it, do you have a link?
Fleischorgel 18 Apr, 2023 @ 10:38am
Is it compatible with the FOTS AI Overhaul by incognitoDino?
Volcano  [author] 9 Dec, 2022 @ 4:55pm
Uhhh OK. LOL

There are plenty of ways in game to increase tech research rate (buildings and generals). The goal is that by the time you are doing well, your research rate gets faster because you have more provinces and have built more structures that provide you with a tech bonus, because you went for the tech that allowed you to build those structures. If you don't do that, then you prioritized other research instead, and that is not a bad thing, but it comes with sacrifices.

So, the goal being, that you end up with situations where one faction might have certain tech that another one doesn't rather than everyone having everything about halfway through the campaign. It also means that the tech choices are more consequential.

But everyone has their own opinion on what's best. I am sure you can find a mod that speeds up research, but I prefer something different.
Apokatastasis 9 Dec, 2022 @ 4:39pm
The tech research is too fast in base game? Are you high? On any given campaign by the time I've captured every province in the game I'm still pretty much only using ashigaru, light cav and katana samurai because the tech researches too slowly to make anything else effective. Occasionally I'll get kisho ninja, monk units or matchlocks if I'm playing as the Hattori, Uesugi or Ottomo respectively but if anything the time to research needs to be REDUCED globally, not increased.
Volcano  [author] 21 Dec, 2021 @ 4:19pm
No it affects everyone.
EffriT 20 Dec, 2021 @ 12:22am
Does the 'GLOBAL TECH TIMES INCREASED' affect only the AI?
Volcano  [author] 12 Jul, 2021 @ 12:46am
Yes, you can turn it off and on as you like, and it should not mess up any saves.
Charizard_Jr 11 Jul, 2021 @ 6:43pm
is this save compatible?
Volcano  [author] 13 Apr, 2021 @ 9:23pm
Yes, it should be OK.
Ligma Bababooey 13 Apr, 2021 @ 5:24pm
does it work with custom units ?
Volcano  [author] 5 Apr, 2021 @ 3:10pm
Hmm, well, its technical - as it involves external programs. Actually it wasn't as painful for me to just go ahead it make another mod without the technology changes. Here it is:

Forgive my ignorance, but would you mind posting a small guide of how to do the below mentioned file deleting? I would hate to mess that up.
Volcano  [author] 1 Apr, 2021 @ 1:19am
Unfortunately no, I don't really have time to separate them and make multiple mods available (and maintain them). However, if you can open the pack file you can delete the tables you don't want for the technology.
Frootie Tootie 27 Mar, 2021 @ 2:55pm
Any way of just getting the AI improvements?
Volcano  [author] 20 Mar, 2021 @ 3:32am
I think so, best to try it out and see though.
Ulfhedinn_ 19 Mar, 2021 @ 7:08pm
Hi, I can use Earlier Matchlock Recruitment with this mod?
Volcano  [author] 4 Mar, 2021 @ 9:01pm
Thanks, yeah try it out and have fun. :steamhappy:
tankboyz 4 Mar, 2021 @ 4:59am
@Volcano467
Thanks, this mod is very appealing to me, i enjoy it way more than the original as i hate fighting against ashigaru hordes and mopping them up all the god damn time...
Volcano  [author] 2 Mar, 2021 @ 3:18pm
No more than it does any other time. This mod doesn't help the AI buy armies, it just helps with how they build their armies (so you don't get the armies of 75% archers, or armies that consist only for ashigaru (unless the faction is poor). What affects "spam armies" more than anything is the difficulty level.
tankboyz 27 Feb, 2021 @ 6:41am
about this mod, does The ai SPAM ARMIES?
Volcano  [author] 11 Feb, 2021 @ 12:30pm
@nobubblegums Yeah, I played around with it (and changed it as described), but it doesn't really seem to do much, as you said. I also played with the other values (one was relative strength, I think), and the AI did the same thing. It seems like the change to MINIMUM_CHANCE_OF_SUCCESS helps, but I couldn't say by how much (maybe it just influences the AI in some way, within its other priorities).
nobubblegums 11 Feb, 2021 @ 12:26pm
A bit late to the party but have you done any additional tests on what ServusPecum said about "MINIMUM_CHANCE_OF_SUCCESS"? It seems pretty obvious but I doubt it works, when I was modding AI, I tried to make it so that the AI would play it safe and only attack when odds are in its favor, but found that even when set to 99 or 100, AI's behavior didn't change that much, it would still attack when the armies were of equal or comparable strength.
Volcano  [author] 10 Feb, 2021 @ 1:10am
Looking at AI siege behavior a bit further lately, and it actually is pretty complicated. The AI seems to outright assault when odds are heavily in favor. If it isn't doing that, then there must be some other consideration it is taking into account, like the presence of nearby armies (either of yours or another enemy faction).

That said, in a game I was just playing I saw the AI both siege and attack castles at various times, so it seems to be quite varied (which is good - because it implies they are doing these things for a reason, not because they are just doing standard behavior each time).
Volcano  [author] 31 Dec, 2020 @ 11:36am
Well, as far as I know, the AI will siege you to starvation if it means no loss or threat to it, which sounds pretty smart.
Malagor Złośliwy 26 Dec, 2020 @ 5:18pm
Hi!Its fantastic mod, but i want to ask you one thing. Is it possible to do something with AI behaviour?I was about to have a final battle with my main opponent in wich i wanted to destroy his best forces. He have 6 armys in my province (I got only one in city)and advantage 8000:1000 men, yet he doesnt attack me - just sieging me to starvation and does it regardless my loads to couple turns before situation.
Volcano  [author] 18 Dec, 2020 @ 10:51pm
@GAAP, thanks! Enjoy! :steamhappy::steamhappy:
GAAP 17 Dec, 2020 @ 8:11pm
BEST MOD I EVER SEEN
ServusPecum 12 Dec, 2020 @ 3:54am
Yw Volcano. I have also changed the profiile for takeda and date, because they capture cities and move on,. and in the end loose everything because of rebellions and not having builld anything economic or happy. Made them defensive. But just for the buildingbehaviour, they are still agressive but attack later now, like the others.
Volcano  [author] 7 Dec, 2020 @ 11:05pm
OK, I recall now why - it was because the AI would never attack, so 15 made them aggressive, but I didn't think suicidal, but maybe that was because my faction was fighting stronger enemies. Anyway, I think its a good suggestion so I also changed it to 50 now. Thanks!
Volcano  [author] 7 Dec, 2020 @ 10:51pm
Its been a while since I looked at it, I'll take a look when I can...
ServusPecum 5 Dec, 2020 @ 2:21pm
BTW very smart to double the needed points for technologies it makes the 12tpy games much better
ServusPecum 5 Dec, 2020 @ 2:20pm
It's in the table uai_campaign_ai_personality_junctions. "MINIMUM_CHANCE_OF_SUCCES" set to 15. I changed it to 50, problem solved.
Volcano  [author] 5 Dec, 2020 @ 1:04am
Can you be more specific? Which ai personality junction?
ServusPecum 4 Dec, 2020 @ 7:29am
Why did you change minimum chance of succes under ai personality junctions to 15? It makes the Ai suicidal towards player

Thanks for answering I'm just trying to make Radious harder because it makes the game so easy because it lowered upkeep to 38 for high tear troops.
Volcano  [author] 4 May, 2020 @ 9:06pm
Not really sure. For small mods, yes, but for large total conversion mods then "maybe". Just have to try it out and see.
Volcano  [author] 4 May, 2020 @ 7:37pm
I doubt it, since Radious mod changes so much - but you can try it out and see (it shouldn't mess anything up).
♠ FallenSoul [O.S.S] 4 May, 2020 @ 5:00pm
Is this compatible to radious?
