LIVE TRAINING WING

Physical Training Wing is a location added by Castle Volkihar Redux. Because live monsters and enemies can be spawned here it is considered a dungeon. Leveling, training and collecting high level items are this wing's sole purposes.

LOCATION
The wing is entered through the East Tower's upper spire armory. The armory is a large room with melee dummies, eight ranged dummies and some weapon racks. A small wooden door on the north wall of this large room goes to this wing.

The Dragonborn can also travel here by using the internal teleporter located in Teleport Tower West.

DESCRIPTION
The room is an arena styled combat simulator which allows the Dragonborn to summons as many enemies as wanted by pulling levers. Both ranged or hand to hand options are available. There are five melee and five ranged foes that can be summonsed, each with their own respective lever.

Ranged levers are found on a basin that runs across the middle of the main room. Melee levers are found on a basin against the wall in the main room.

VALERICA'S TOWER

Valerica's Tower is a location in the Castle Volkihar Redux mod. It is the central tower of Castle Volkihar which was left to ruin after Valerica's escape into the Soul Cairn.

DESCRIPTION
Two unique books can be found in the temple of Molag Bal sitting on a desk: the Book of Molag Bal Worship and The Thirty-Six Lessons of Vivec, Sermon Fourteen.

After finishing the final quest Kindred Judgement, Valerica will now hang out not only in her study, she wil now either be found in her throne in the Vampire Tavern inside Valerica's Tower, or sleeping in her coffin in the torture chamber, or in the Volkihar Library.

CASTLE VOLKIHAR REDUX

Castle Volkihar Redux cleans up Castle Volkihar and adds new missions, perks, and unique items. CVR removes the piles of rubble, restores the blocked portals, and germinates the castle into a small town. To compliment these features, over 80 NPCs (including Gargoyles, Dragur, Wrathmen, Mistmen, and other undead) to populate the castle. To top these features off, a new questline has been added.

There are five additional towers, a marketplace and several dungeons added to the castle. The outside of the castle has undergone extensive upgrades. The shipyard docks have been restored with travel ready ships, a full service smithing area and stables populated with a custom horse.

This vampire home also offers many unique perks such as a Blood Bath, potion cauldrons, a vault, swimming pool and fifteen guest rooms. A set of custom armor, magic, blessings and weapons all influenced by Molag Bal are added as well. The Dragonborn's spouse will now have the dialogue option to move into the castle.

Any mod that changes Castle Volkihar: solution may be putting the offending mod last in the load list. This works for Marriable Serana mod

CVR doesn't need The Elder Scrolls V: Hearthfire. Hearthfires DLC subscribers will not be able to move their spouse into or out of hearthfires homes. To fix this, uninstall this mod, move the spouse to a non Hearthfires home *(such as Breezehome in Whiterun), re-install this mod. An option to move one's spouse into Castle Volkihar should now be available. Caveat is, one will never have an option to move their spouse into Hearthfires homes while using this mod.

VOLKIHAR DOCKS

Volkihar Docks is a location upgraded by Castle Volkihar Redux mod. It is both a smithing area and a travel hub with several new doors into the castle.

LOCATION
Located on the far south-west side of the island you will find the Volkihar Docks. Once there, a large docked ship can be found.

The Dragonborn will also find helms on ships at these corresponding locations; Dawnstar Port, Winterhold Jetty, Windhelm Port and Solitude Port.

DESCRIPTION
The Volkihar Docks upgrade two times. The first upgrade happens when the The Elder Scrolls V: Dawnguard quest Touching the Sky is completed. The Volkihar Docks will then be a full service smithing work space with all the crafting stations, including a smithing vendor Louis de Pointe du Lac, the new Castle smith. He can often be found working metal around the smithing stations at the docks but also sells his wares at a booth inside the Volkihar Undercroft.

Beside the existing entrance to the Undercroft, three new doors will be added to the Volkihar Docks during the first upgrade. These doors go to the Master Throne Wing, Valerica's Tower and a one way secret passage from the Secret Cave. When using this secret exit the Dragonborn will go through a portcullis with a waterfall flowing through it.

Several follow ready Draugr Castle Guards patrol above and below surrounding parapet's. A new pier walkway is added on the south-east side of the docks.

The Volkihar Docks will upgrade a second time when the CVR quest Port of Call is completed. This quest add's several large bonfire's to either side of the Shipyard to attract more trade and prey into the castle. It also add's aesthetic decorations such as crates, banners, plaques and signs. Captain Wheeler will also begin selling blood potions in a booth on the docks outside the door to the Master Throne Wing.

Another such item found on the Volkihar Docks after the second upgrade, is the Night Mother's coffin. This is not only a cookie, but a visceral hint that the Dark Brotherhood has had some dealings with the Dragonborn's new coven and that the Night Mother is on the move again.

When a helm is used a menu will pop up offering a trip to Dawnstar Port, Winterhold Jetty, Windhelm Port, Solitude's Port or the Volkihar Docks. Travel options depend on which location the helm is being used.

The helms do not appear until the Dragonborn has completed the quest Touching the Sky.

Prior to the Teleport Tower West wing being added this was the original travel system for Castle Volkihar Redux. It was in fact going to be the main travel hub. However, this would have been inconvenient compared to the new teleportation system which makes every utility inside the castle availabe within thirty strides.

This travel system was left in place for people who were already use to using it, convenience, immersion and for aesthetic value.

FACILITIES
There are two safe storage containers on the dock, both are underneath the smithing enclosure. One is marked as Black Smithing Supplies and the other is marked as the Dragonborn's Chest.

A trash barrel has also been added near the smelter marked as Trash. Part of this container's name warns that anything put inside will be lost. Technically the container is ticked as "respawn" within the game code so unwanted items discarded in this container will eventually perish and be deleted.

The Workbench, Grindstone and Enchanting stations give a 25% bonus to all items created or upgraded.

BUGS
Confusing quest markers hovering in the air on the ships' decks near the helms (the helms use regular vanilla door scripting mechanics instead of travel portals because portals caused conflicts in the world space. This will inevitably show quest markers hovering in the air above invisible doors on the ships' decks depending on how many quests are actively tagged in the quest log. Move to another world space where the ship helm is no longer drawn to avert these confusing markers)

VOLKIHAR UNDERCROFT UPGRADE

The Volkihar Undercroft was originally an old escape tunnel out of the castle. After installing Castle Volkihar Redux and the Dawnguard quest Touching the Sky has been completed, the Undercroft transforms into a bustling underground vampire black market.

LOCATION
The Undercroft is located just below the castle. There are 3 doors into the Undercroft and one trap door which is one way only from the main Keep or guild hall thrall prison above.

There is also a secret moving wall door added to the Undercroft that leads to the Gargoyle King's Lair after the CVR quest It's Good to be King has been completed.

DESCRIPTION
The flea market includes a blacksmith, archery sales, fish sales. Even the castle Draugr guards have a vendor who supplies replacement parts.

Many new NPCs are added that will traverse from their lairs across Skyrim to visit the Undercroft's new vampire black market. Visitations depend on the time of day so it will all vary. Two Volkihar drauger castle guards patrol the Undercroft.

Some of the NPCs will wander into the castle to drink, and socialize with cohabiting vampires within.

VAMPIRE LAIRS ADDED BY CASTLE VOLKIHAR REDUX

ABANDONED HOUSE
The Abandoned House is a location added by Castle Volkihar Redux. It is a fledgling vampire starter home available in Windhelm.

LOCATION
The abandoned house is located in Windhelm's Valunstrad quarter next door to Hjerim. This safehouse becomes available after completing the CVR quest Just the Bare Necessities of Life but this quest does not start until the Dragonborn opens up the housing area of Windhelm by completing the quest Blood on the Ice.

DETAILS
This vampire safehouse was added for the sole purpose of giving a fledgling vampire a safe and easy way to sleep by day and prowl the city of Windhelm for victims at night. The abandoned house has all the bare necessities a new vampire could need, hence the name of the quest that leads the Dragonborn to it.

Although there is already a purchasable house just next door (Hjerim), the Abandoned House is added because Hjerim is amongst the hardest houses to obtain in Skyrim due to the long chain of quests that must be completed to obtain it.

This safehouse was not designed to take the place of Hjerim, but just to give a temporary starter home until it could be acquired.

*Although Skyrim has an external version of this house, it did not have an actual interior or functioning entry door.

SECRET SEWER
The Secret Sewer is a lair is added by Castle Volkihar Redux. It is designed to be a safe haven for the Dragonborn when starting out as a fledgeling vampire and may not yet have been able to gain access to the castle when finally finishing the entire Dawnguard questline.

This lair is not available as a home until the quest The Scent of Old Death is completed.

LOCATION
This secret lair is located inside the city of Solitude. The sewer entrance is actually a manhole cover found just outside the rear of the Erikur's House. There is a shadowmark "protected" on a barrel just outside the back door.

Once the associated quest The Scent of Old Death has been completed three more manhole covers will become available for entry using the key gained from the quest.


DETAILS
This is by far the most comprehensive external world starter vampire lair provided by Caslte Volkihar Redux. It has four usable coffins, an alchemy lab, Blood Bucket, Vampire Cattle to feed on and storage.

Initially this vampire lair is populated with enemies such as skeevers and feral vampires. This lair must be earned by completing the quest The Scent of Old Death.

It will also become the home of some of the vampires patrons at Volkihar Tavern after the quest The Scent of Old Death is completed. Theoden, Brom, Tish, Wednesday, David and Doc will all begin to travel out to the Secret Sewer around 4 AM each morning and will travel back to Castle Volkihar at various times after 6 PM.

Because this is originally a dungeon, several containers are set to respawn and are not safe storage. Any barrels or satchels are not safe storage. Only storage named for the player are safe storage containers.

Prior to the quest The Scent of Old Death being completed this vampire lair is populated with enemies.

BUGS
It is possible to teleport into the Secret Sewer lair prior to starting the associated quest. This could happen if the Dragonborn uses the Teleport Tower West portal to Solitude before going in through its main gates. To fix this, the Dragonborn will need to exit the sewer into Solitude. Once initiated, the quest will then populate the objectives

An essential skeever named "Ben" habitates inside the sewer. He was supposed to be a follower pet, but the scripting is missing and he is not interactable

Some of the vampires from Volkihar Tavern cannot make their way back and forth from their home to the castle and seem to loiter in daylight

VAMPIRE INN

The Vampire Inn is a secret vampire safehouse added by Castle Volkihar Redux.

LOCATION
Hidden in the far northwest reaches of Skyrim, this safehouse is located due west of Northwatch Keep, just a few steps south of the most north western camp site in all of Skyrim. It is a two minute horse ride from Icewater Jetty.

DESCRIPTION
Presently known as the Aurits and Rurits Inn, it is similar to any other inn or tavern located in Skyrim, except that it is exclusively for vampires.

It also serves as the Volkihar Coven Authority Headquarters, which will be related to a new questline scheduled to be added at a later date.

At present, this safehouse only offers two amenities: a rentable coffin for one night and a chest for storage. Other utilities will become available in future updates to Castle Volkihar Redux. This lair does not have a fast travel map marker associated to it even after it has been discovered.

WEAPONS AND ARMOR

Gargoyle King's Weapons
Gargoyle King's Subduer and Offhand are unique weapons added by Castle Volkihar Redux.

LOCATION
Two chests contain one sword each inside the Gargoyle King's Lair. These chests can only be found during the quest It's Good to be King.

INFORMATION
Although these swords are etheral, they are not learned from a spell tome like bound weapons. Once found by the Dragonborn they are kept in inventory. They are enchanted with shock, fire and frost at 25% intensity. They are not extremely over powered, but are still powerful and could be used to defeat the Gargoyle King and his guards.

Because they are etheral they do not possess any additional base weapon damage. That being said, any foe with resistance to all three schools of magic might be somewhat impervious to damage from these swords.

DESCRIPTION
Both swords are identical except one is for the right hand and the other is for the left. They are both transparent by 50% and are red in color with a lick of blue flame flowing over them.

LORE
Although it is believed that Molag Bal created these swords in his realm of Coldharbour with the specific purpose of helping the Volkihar Clan subdue a very powerful daedric entity known as the Gargoyle King, it is unlikely.

Their origins are disputed because these etheral swords were crafted with an ancient magic specifically made for men to wield in battle against Daedra. Because of this fact, some believe they were actually crafted in Mundus by Et'Ada with ties to Lorkhan (the hero and patron of men who tricked the Et'Ada) or possibly even Vivec.

BUGS
Since the swords are etheral, do not attempt to put them in a display or drop them as they will turn completely invisible. They can still be picked up again if you can find them

ROBES OF MOLAG BAL

Robes of Molag Bal are a heavily enchanted armor added by Castle Volkihar Redux. These highly enchanted robes help the minions of Molag Bal carry out his desires throughout Tamriel and beyond.

LOCATION
The robes can be found inside three chests in Castle Volkihar. There is one full set in each chest.

One such chest is very hard to find. It is next to the desk in the back of the Temple of Molag Bal inside Valerica's Tower
The other two chests are on either side of the golden throne in the Throne Room of the Master Throne Wing

DETAILS
These highly enchanted robes help Molag's minions carry out his desires throughout the plane of Tamriel and beyond. The robes (crafted in the realm of Molag Bal known as Coldharbour) are second to none for all classes.

The robes are also craftable under miscellaneous in at any forge. Any version of these robes can be worn by followers. Unenchanted versions of the robes can be crafted at the Volkihar Shipyard blacksmith under "misc".

ARMOR SET
Boots of Molag Bal: Enchanted with Fortify Muffle, Fortify Sneak by 70% and Fortify Carry by 100%

Day walkers hood: Enchanted so vampires wearing it can walk in full sunlight with no penalty or damage. Fortify Archery by 70%, Fortify Destruction 50%,

Gauntlets of Molag Bal: Fortify Pickpocket, Fortify One Handed, Fortify Lockpicking by 50% and backstab bonus (x6)

Robes of Molag Bal: Fortify Health and Fortify Health Regeneration by 70%, Fortify Light Armor by 50%, Fortify Block by 50%, Fortify Smithing by 100%, and adds the shroud of Boethiah (same enchant on the Ebony Mail)

BUGS
Khajiit models do not work properly wearing the hood. No fix for this is planned in later releases.

If you have my other mod installed "The Robes of Molag Bal" you can no longer use the daywalkers hood from the original mod. Only the enchanted daywalkers hood purchased from the new vendor added by "The Robes of Molag Bal" will block out the sun. This mod was not meant to be used with Castle Volkihar Redux mod. It was made for those that only wanted the robes. Not to say they can't be used with both mods, but you'll have to go through the technical steps to make them work again.. such as moving them in the proper load order.

SECRET PASSAGES

A few secret areas and passages are added by Castle Volkihar Redux.

LOCATIONS
Secret passage locations:

Gargoyle King's Lair (secret passage to the Undercroft). This passage is extremely hard to find because it is a brick wall that blends in very well. One muse first complete the quest It's Good to be King, re-acquire the key from the final part of that quest and use it on the secret wall door to enter the Undercroft. Both secret walls require this key

Master Throne Wing (secret passage from the foyer to the throne). This secret passage is extremely hard to find because it is a brick wall that blends very well. One must "use" it as they would any door in Skyrim to get it to open. It is located between the Throne Room and the small foyer above the Study

Master Throne Wing's secret cabinet (found during the quest Releasing the Coven ) opens a passage from the Throne Room to the Catacombs

Master Throne Wing's Master Sleeping Quarters (secret closet and secret bedroom)

Secret Cave (a one way secret passage to the Volkihar Docks). Found on the upper level of the
Secret Cave. One must go through a very large stone double door after going through some shallow water in the furthest reaches of the cave systems

Volkihar Courtyard (a secret hatch to the Secret Cave). In the far north-west corner of the courtyard, just north of a small pond, one can find a an old hatch obscured by foliage such as ferns and nightshade

Volkihar Keep (a one way secret passage to the Undercroft). Inside the farthest part of the vampire cattle dungeon's caves one will find a very large storm drain. It can be used like any other door in Skyrim.

HINT: Many portcullis doors found around the castle have a lever on one side but a disguised torch lever that opens the it on the other.

DESCRIPTION
What vampire castle or lair would be complete without some secret passages. There are four secret passages in the castle and one in a lair. Most can be found after awakening and following Nearly Headless Nick.

NEARLY HEADLESS NICK - CASTLE VOLKIHAR TOUR GUIDE AND PROTECTOR

Nearly Headless Nick is an NPC added by Castle Volkihar Redux. He functions as a tour guide and an additional sentry.

Location
Nearly Headless Nick's bones are located in Valerica's Tower on the eighth tier in a small embalming room just below the torture chamber and two flights of stairs above the Temple of Molag Bal. This room is not easy to find unless you are really looking for it.

Description
Nearly Headless Nick was a Dawnguard soldier who was taken prisoner, tortured and then embalmed in a necormancer's ritual that was seemingly interrupted and never completed many decades ago. Nick's remains can be found on an embaling table with his skull on a golden display. When the skull is used it will complete the final step of the ritual, adding the skull to the body and awakening him.

When awakened from his ghostly slumber he will begin to go on a very large patrol path taking anyone who follows him on a tour of the castle and Volkihar island. The tour goes to all of the mod authors favorite places as well as revealing some of the secret areas.

Because Nick is awakened by the Dragonborn he is friendly and will attack any detected threats he encounters, even other Dawnguard enemies. Essentially making him one more guard added to the castle.

Although he uses no magic at all, Nick is an amazingly skilled melee fighter. He will vanquish any foe he comes across in Skyrim with ease. If one can bring enemies to him it is quite a show as he bellows threats in his booming ghostly voice while dispatching them in a few powerful strikes.

NOT A FOLLOWER
Unfortunately, Nearly Headless Nick is not a follower. Since he is an apparition created by a Warlock many years ago who was unable to finish the ritual, he is forever stuck between this realm and the next.

WARNING!
DO NOT ATTEMPT TO TALK (click or use) NICK IF HE STAYS SLEEPING ON THE TABLE! He will awaken angry and an enemy! If this happens, run away (he is unkillable). Leave the tower and he should later forget his anger and return to a friendly disposition.

If left to awaken on his own he will no longer become angry if used or clicked on.

Wat if u sided with the DG can you still use this as a player home or do you got to side with the Vamps?

As stated in the 2nd paragraph of the description of this mod and in several threads on the FAQ,

The following requirements are needed to use this mod:


* Does not matter if you choose vampire or Dawnguard side <-------ANSWER

* Must have the Dawnguard DLC purchased and installed
* Install anytime but castle won't upgrade until "Touching the Sky" (get Auriels bow) is completed
* Works fine with the Dragonborn DLC (not required)
* No 3rd party tools or mods needed

I CAN'T FIND VALERICA'S STUDY THE ENTRANCE PORTAL TO THE SOUL CAIRNE

the entrance to Valerica's study has not changed even after installing this mod. There are two ways in.

1.) You go up to the very top of valerica's tower to the torture chamber, turn the candle sconce on the wall (next to the fireplace) to open the secret fireplace door, then go on up to a door that opens to Valerica's Study. *Inside that door is where the portal can be opened to the Soul Cairne.

2.) Alternatively you can also find Valerica's Study by "fast traveling" to the balcony (bridge) on the exterior of the castle and enter the small door.
