Solution:
to advance the quest use a console command:
setstage CleanerGargoyleKing 65
When you put the key into the Viscous material right by the Gargoyle King's gate...... a pull chain will appear on the wall next to the gate. It has magic swirling around it.
Just make sure the key is in the Viscous material, because the pull chain is only visible when the key is in it.
Also, there is not two keys. There is only one key. You get the key from the vicious material the first time in the gauntlet of gargoyles, then put it in the 2nd vicious material at the gargoyle king's gate.
Hope that helps.
*The viscous material is a cookie reference to Van Helsing.
Quote: "If there's one thing I've learned, it's never to be the first one to stick your hand in a viscous material".
Here is a full list of all stages for this quest:
Console name: CleanerGargoyleKing
Starts after completing Kindred Judgement and exiting the Guild Gall
5 What is a king without his army? Ponder this on your new throne.
10 Gargoyles attacked in force! Talk to Theoden and see if he can shed some light on this.
20 Use the small rowboat at the shipyard and enter the lair of the "Gargoyle King" hidden deep beneath Castle Volkihar.
30 Find the key to the King of Gargoyles lair.
40 The Gargoyle army now stands between you and your final goal. Destroy the Stone Guardians.
45 One down and one to go. Destroy the final Stone Guardian.
50 You've triumphed over the Stone Guardians! Now you are well equipped to take on the final fight.
60 Now it is time! Conquer "The King of Gargoyles" and claim his army for your own!
65 The final prize is yours. You are now King of the Gargoyles. Get the key you used on the Gargoyle King's portcullis door that is still inside the viscous material
70 Put the key back into the viscous material where you originally found it. This will open a secret passage to the undercroft.
80 Go to the Volkihar Undercroft using the secret passage.
90 You are now in command of the Gargoyle Army. Gargoyles will now be under your command throughout Castle Volkihar.

But right now I'm facing a little problem. I looked around here, but couldn't find a solution:
I found the draugr, that you can dress and talk to in "Fortify Volkihar", before the quest started.
I dressed one by accident and then had the original, undressed draugr on the table plus the dressed one. Tried it with the other two - same thing happened. I left them this way.
When I came back to do the quest, the first two draugr went fine. Got the clothes off the undressed ones, dressed them again, this time the undressed one vanished. I talked to the dressed one, that was still lying there... voila. They got up and everyone was happy.
But the third one was strange. I wanted to pick up the clothes from the undressed one, but suddenly the whole draugr vanished. Then I talked to the already dressed one on the table, she got up and walked away. Would be fine with me, if the quest would proceed in the journal. Also the quest marker is still shown.
I will try to work around it myself, by simply trying to load an old save game.
Just wanted to tell you about it though, in case someone else encouters this.
Cheers.
So I am sorry I am not a professional at this, but in any case you can use this command to push the quest forward
setstage CleanerFortifyVolkihar 90
GO HERE: https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/workshop/filedetails/discussion/129969995/846966336549220989/?ctp=4#c630802344119896742
setstage CleanerFortifyVolkihar 90
I loaded an earlier save and now I could finish the quest, including the third draugr.
Luckily I still had the other save. The getstage here shows 60.00.
I really can't tell what happened. I'm twisting my brain to remember how it was...
I went through the barrier, got the journal as told in the quest "Releasing the Coven". Here I'm not sure, if I released all the vampires or not, before going to the draugr. But I know for sure, that "Fortify Volkihar" hadn't started yet. And that I went into the room with the draugr and the gear was already lootable.
Sorry, if I'm not much of a help. Well, but then again: What's a programmer without a DAU? ;)
You must use quest markers and follow the quest exactly. If you do this part of the quest out of order it will break. Sorry I am an amateur and remember; mods are free.
So, you went into the catacombs before this quest started and awakened the draugr eh?
Now the quest has started and you've already tried to awaken the draugr,or you already looted the "armor of service" and used it on the table.
There might be some more armors of service on a corpse in the next room (catacombs). Unless you looted those too.
Sorry about this, you'll have to use the console command in order to fix this bug.
Type the following in console. You get to the console by pressing the tilda key ~ found just below your "ESC" key upper left side of your keyboard. That opens and closes the console. Once the console is open type the following:
setstage CleanerFortifyVolkihar 90
I'll fix this next release. Sorry for the inconvenience. But really you aren't missing much. Waking the guards is really mostly what this quest does and nothing else in the game relies on it.
--------------------
Even though there is many sets of "Armor of Service" the table only awakens 3 new draugr guards. No more no less. So you could awaken three and keep putting the extra copies of the armor in and get nothing back. Originally this quest was supposed to awaken all guards in this manner, it didn't work out so only three are awakened this way.

If that doesn't work or doesn't apply to your issue with this quest than you may need to follow these instructions here:

thanks for your time

If you have concerns about any mod you should make a full save prior to install and then test it out. No you should not be worried about Tes5edit reported errors from this mod. If a 3rd party tool is giving you an error that could not possibly be true then logic would dictate the 3rd party tool is bad.
Over 80,000 people now use this mod with no issues that couldn't be tracked down to conflicts with other mods, corrupted saves etc. This comprehensive FAQ can help with most of your issues.
If your problem is not answered here on the FAQ please post the problem you are having right here in this thread (scroll down to the bottom and post) and I will be notified and will come as soon as I see it and work with you on solving your issue as I have countless times over the last year.
Check out the FAQ if you want to see Q&A that has taken place over the last year.
TESEdit which is far inferior to the official creation kit in dealing with problems.
--------------------------------------------------------------
BETHESDA DOES NOT RECOMMEND TESEdit, SO WHY SHOULD YOU USE IT!?!
I know there are many people who strongly believe the hype involved with 3rd party tools. I don't jump on board with everything I read. Instead I go with everything I've read and learned from my own experience, common sense and testing. The creation kit has everything you need to do it right the first time.. The way the developers @ Bethesda designed the creation kit.
Subscribers might want to be able to find which mods conflict however and I can understand the use of 3rd party tools for this, but not for manipulating actual files.
If you are experiencing issues with your mannequins, it could be any number of things causing it. One thing is known for sure. Mannequins are buggy even in vanilla Skyrim.
I never have issues with mannequins, but for the first time out of 17,000 subscribers someone recently posted that they were having issues where the mannequins do not wear what they are given when they reload the cell.
Keep in mind that mannequins are NPC's with AI programmed to do what they do, so if you ever had another mod that did something to their AI, whether you deleted, disabled or still have that mod installed or not, your save will be damaged in this way forever.
I know for a fact that this problem is not due to my mod as I do nothing with vanilla NPC's or mannequins. I make a full new version of anything I create in the game. This is why I have virtually no problems compared to some other mods out there.
***In most cases, just leaving the cell and coming back in can fix issues with mannequins that have moved.
There are many different opinions on what causes it or how to fix it. In my opinion your save may be corrupted in some way. In which case follow these instructions.
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/workshop/filedetails/discussion/129969995/846966336549220989/#c846966336549568886
I also googled this, and as you can see if you go to the link below there are many problems with mannequins without this mod.
google search about mannequin bugs:
https://www.google.com/#q=mannequin+skyrim+bug
None of the fix's I could see were very helpful, and running scripts to try to fix mannequins to me is a very bad idea. Anytime someone tries to change vanilla scripting it can only end badly.
ADOPTED CHILDREN AND WIVES IN CASTLE VOLKIHAR REDUX IS NOW POSSIBLE BUT ONLY BY USING THIS MOD!
https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=196709514
======================================================================
But with a caveat, if your wife or children are already living in a hearthfires home you'll have to use a work around. If your wife and children are NOT living in a hearthfire home (such as breezehome, markarth, windhelm, etc. you won't need to use a work around.
======================================================================
Castle Volkihar Redux mod (CVR) isn't attached to the Hearthfires DLC. Because CVR doesn't use the Hearthfires DLC "master" there is a conflict.
So first read all of my instructions below to understand and get it to work. It may take trial and error, but if you follow my instructions perfectly, it should work for you the first time!
To fix it so you can move your spouse and family into CVR because they are already living in a hearthfires home;
0.) try installing "custom family home" mod and see if it works before going to step 1.
1.) uninstall CVR.
2.) load a save prior to when CVR was installed,
3.) move your spouse to a non Hearthfires home *(such as Breezehome in Whiterun),
4.) re-install this mod (IMPORTANT, use a save from before this mod was installed).
5.) an option to move one's spouse into Castle Volkihar should now be available.
IMPORTANT: Caveat is, after doing this workaround, you will not have an option to move your spouse into Hearthfires homes while CVR mod is installed.
You will have to decide if you would rather have this mod installed and not have the option to move your spouse into hearthires homes or uninstall CVR and repeat the above process to undo it and then use Hearthfires homes. You can't do both.
The reason being, CVR has altered the marriage move in script for your wife. Hearthfires will overwrite this option if you already have your wife living in a hearthfires home. If your wife is NOT in a hearthfires home YOU PROBABLY WON'T NEED TO DO THIS WORK AROUND!
================================================
Want to know why I don't make a Hearthfires version? Because it would present a support nightmare for me if I made a 2nd version for hearthfires and I don't have time for that. Sorry. Welcome to using free mods.
When using Aedric or Daedric displays in the "Daedric South Tower" your artifact' enchantments are removed. You will lose all it's enchantments on the stored item if you place them, then take them back again. Unfortunately you'll have to add them once again.
I apologize for any inconvenience, but the script makes a copy of the base item and deletes the one you put in it.
Usually this is because you have missed something in the quest stages.
You have to get the key from the viscous material on one end of the gargoyle king's dungeon then place the key in the viscous material near the door. When you place the key in there (and are on the proper part of the quest "It's good to be king"), a pull chain will appear next to the final gargoyle king's door. It has magic swirling around it.
You simply failed to see it or place the key in the material, or are not on the right part of the quest as many objects in this mod will not appear until the proper stage of the quest. This ensure's the quest mechanics cannot be broken.
------------------------------------------------------------------------
If that is not the problem and you think you have done the above or the quest is broken you can try the following:
You can see a full list of all quest stages here on CVR mod's wiki site:
http://tes-mods.wikia.com/wiki/It%27s_Good_to_be_King#Quest_Stages
If you know how to use your console type this in to progress the "It's good to be king quest"
setstage CleanerGargoyleKing 80 (if you do this, make sure you've looted both chests containing the swords first).
This will not finish the quest, but will get you to the point you need to be to move on to the last stage which is 90 (kill the gargoyle king). But 80 has to happen because it does many mechanics that make killing the gargoyle king possible.
There is a mod "Flowing Red Cape" that causes this for some people. I worked with someone for an hour before we narrowed it down to this mod.
The person I was working with on this was able to fix it by putting in the ini again, installed an update for it.
http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/924418-flowing-red-cape/page-84
the gargoyal to the right of the key on my end wont jump out and attack me like all the rest in the room have done thus far, no matter what spot in the room i stand in front of it at. is there a way for me to fix that on my end with a console command?
