Description
NOTE: The video is for the original version, some weapons will sound different in this version. I will make a new video showing only the changes soon(ish). Details below!
========================================
F.A.Q.
========================================
Q: What is this?
A: This is the "Definitive Edition" of my Fallout New Vegas Weapon Soundpack.

Q: What makes this version "definitive"?
A: This version has more careful audio balancing, as well as echos and all foliage sounds restored, when before I had intentionally left them out for the sake of time. Therefore, it is more complete, but "definitive" sounds cooler.

Q: Are there any differences from the old versions besides that?
A: Yes, several! I'll list them all including that, though:
  • Weapon echos/distant firing sounds have been restored
  • Miscellaneous weapon rustling & foliage noises have been restored (that I didn't already replace from the previous versions)
  • Reduced amount of weapons that use the same sound effect (the exceptions being the medic pistol and SMG, as well as the grenade launcher, the grenade launcher attachment for the m16m203, and the grenade launcher attachment for the medic grenade launcher), more details on the weapon changes below
  • To that end, some Fallout 4 sounds have been added and replace some old sounds in order to reduce the number of duplicate sound effects and because some were just better than the New Vegas ones for certain weapons
  • Some miscellaneous key changes that I'll also go into more detail about below

Q: Why "(Beta #)"?
A: Some sounds don't translate to gameplay as I might think, so I'll need to do a 2nd audio balancing pass to fix some issues with sound levels and events here and there after I play with this installed for a bit to fix them. Beta # helps you (and me) to indicate which Beta the mod is on so that if there's a new version, there's an easy way to tell. Just check the Change Notes and see if there's been a new Beta.

(I believe the sounds are currently in a good state, so the mod is now out of beta. I will still continue to update them with any changes necessary as I discover them.)

Q: Are the previous versions going to be updated? Deleted?
A: Updated no, deleted no. I know some people are going to want the old versions, so rather than delete them, I've updated their pages saying that I will no longer update them in favor of this version. This way, if people prefer how the old sounds were/worked, they can still have those instead.

Q: What do I do if I have a previous version installed, but want this one?
A: Step 1 would be to go unsubscribe from the old version that you have installed. This can either be the Original ( https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1733560705 ) or Quieter Edition ( https://steamhost.cn/steamcommunity_com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1749141977 ). Step 2 would be to subscribe to *this* version, and follow the installation instructions below.

Q: Is every weapon that was replaced in the old versions still in this version?
A: Yes, including a new one which is the Hemogoblin.

========================================
Key Changes
========================================
Here I'll go into greater detail about the new changes in this version over the others.
  • Weapon sounds are slightly quieter overall in order to not exceed the game's hardcoded volume threshold and make the action quieter when things get heated
  • Third person weapon sounds have been properly balanced to assist in that same goal
  • Reload sounds have been made louder because I like them that way
  • The RPG7 has had its "sweetener" sounds replaced (previously they were skipped) so it sounds cooler to shoot
  • The RPG7 has also had its explosion sounds replaced with the normal ones instead of the sound of the Fatman from New Vegas, this is because these were so loud yet so not-punchy that they would often quiet the whole game while at the same time not feeling impactful enough
  • Fixed the 1858s having one too many shotgun-esque pumping sounds when reloading, especially without speedloader (this is because the sound of the lever opening used the same sounds as the pin sliding)
  • The Railgun's firing sound has been enhanced with the addition of the Plasma Sniper Rifle's sound from Fallout 4, so it sounds thicker/heavier like it ought to
Weapon Changes:
  • The Hemogoblin = The Fatman from Fallout 4 (was skipped in previous versions because I was unaware its internal name was "Bleeder")
  • AK-12 = Homemade Rifle from Fallout 4 (sounded better for Commando, the Medic Rifle is now the only gun that uses the Chinese Assault Rifle sound)
  • The Stoner = The LMG from Fallout 76 (was one of 3 duplicates of the 10mm SMG sound)
  • HX25 = The Flare Gun from Fallout 4 (was the Lonesome Road Flare Gun sound, but the Fallout 4 Flare Gun sounds closer to the default HX25 sound which I like)
  • M32 Grenade Launcher = Grenade Machinegun from New Vegas (was the 25mm Grenade APW but I feel the Grenade Machinegun fits better for its fast fire rate)
  • Seeker Six = Missile Launcher from Fallout 4 (was the Grenade Machinegun, but I received feedback that the Seeker Six was missing that "foomp" feel, and I think the Fallout 4 Missile Launcher accomplishes that nicely.
  • Medic Grenade Launcher = The Assault Rifle from Fallout 4 (was one of 3 duplicates of the 10mm SMG sound, is now a custom sound made from its single shot noises since the full-auto sounds too weak)
  • MP5 = The Submachine Gun from Fallout 4 (was one of the 3 duplicates of the 10mm SMG sound)
  • MP7 = Silenced Automatic 10mm Pistol from Fallout 4 (was the Silenced .22 from New Vegas, I didn't like it because it sounded really janky and had too much of a "clicking" effect)
  • P90 = Automatic 10mm Pistol from Fallout 4 (was the Assault Carbine from New Vegas, I received feedback that it sounded too "high-caliber", and the sound was also a duplicate of the 9mm's sound replacement)
  • UMP45 = Combat Rifle from Fallout 4 (was the Automatic Rifle from Dead Money, which was both too high-caliber sounding as well as a duplicate of the FN-FAL's sound replacement)

I hope you enjoy the changes! Update/installation instructions to follow.

excuse the late reply—unfortunately the files for this mod have been lost to time, so I can't fix or change anything anymore

the mod is pretty good however there's an issue with the 9mm swapping between the modded sound and the vanilla sound effect in between shots

can i have louder version? :D
DieKaiserschlacht 22 Oct, 2021 @ 7:32pm
everything's perfect except the med ar, it's ear piercingly loud compared to the rest of the guns
Bunslinger  [author] 5 Nov, 2020 @ 5:16pm
nope, there's only sounds for the weapons that were present at the time of Season's Beatings, so only up to the thompson, iirc. this is because TWI released the sound resources up to that point but hasn't updated them since. unfortunately this means i'll probably never update this again even if they DO come out with the new ones because all the files are on my old hard drive
