Description
KMI Kirin Class Light Cruiser

Length: 77 Blocks, 192.5 Meters.
Size: 11,454 Blocks. 101,332 PCU.
Dry Tonnage: 19,353 Tons.

This ship is vanilla and survival ready. It does use DLC blocks for aesthetic improvements, but those blocks are entirely or almost entirely not structurally necessary. If you do encounter a major issue, please, let me know so I can resolve it.

Knightmare Industries presents the Kirin Class Light Cruiser, one of its latest generation of warships. The last of the first phase of the fleet modernization program, the Kirin is a proper capital ship and will be the leader of small battle groups. It is built for long term deep space missions, equipped with production facilities and a hangar for auxiliary craft. Although its size makes it slower, a new engine design and light hull allow it to keep up with the rest of the fleet, allowing it to fulfill its role as a fast attack cruiser. The class is named after the Kirin, or Qilin, a chimerical creature from Chinese mythology, reminiscent of the ship's somewhat unusual appearance.

The ship's propulsion is a hybrid system of Hydrogen and Ion, though it primarily relies on the latter. There are dozens of large and small thrusters spread throughout the ship, powered by 9 Large Reactors and an extensive Battery backup system. The ship is equipped with 8 Jump Drives for long distance travel. It is equipped with 40 Gatling Turrets, 16 Missile Turrets, 24 Interior Turrets, and 28 forward facing Rocket Launchers. Although it is of considerable size, its hull is mostly light armor, with substantial heavy armor at the front, and reinforced armor around critical areas. The ship is equipped with refineries and assemblers for self repair and long missions, with a hangar for auxiliary craft.

The ship is built fully vanilla and survival ready, with an interior in the style of "The Expanse." I also used a light changing script to switch around the interior light settings. Its an older script and I couldn't find the original creator. The script was updated by ColTeH for my use. There are also a few other program and timer blocks if you need them. You may have noticed, but the ship uses DLC blocks.

Please feel free to modify the ship to fit your in game needs. Just be sure to give credit to the original creator.

Author's Notes
Alright. This was number 3 or 4. The last of the first wave you could say. Will there be a second wave? Probably, but idk when exactly. This ship was an oddball, even next to the Kelpie. The front was hard to figure out, and it perhaps barely matches with the rest of the ship. Still feels like some sort of chimera. The engines turned out very well I feel, and I'm actually planning to reuse them on other designs, which is a first. As for the light armor, I could have changed it with SE tools. I'm still a little tempted to, but the armor optimization wouldn't be as good, and its handling would be more sluggish. Not too many ships at 10k blocks in light armor though, so that's fairly unique. Its really not intended to be in combat long though. I wish it had been under 10k blocks, but seems that wasn't meant to be. Will have to do better with the next one. Anyways, I hope you enjoy it!

If you have any questions or comments about the ship, please leave them in the comments below. Thank you for browsing this item. Safe Voyages! Papple.

Update: After some combat testing, I can say a few things. The first is that the light hull will NOT hold up under a barrage of rockets at least as intense as this ship is capable of giving out. The second is that while the hull won't survive, neither will the ship's own firepower, and if you've already lost your turrets and your ship is getting gutted, its probably time to get out of there. Third, if you keep your well armored front towards the enemy, you'll actually fair quite well, and suffer little hull damage or loss of firepower. Fourth and lastly, I will likely be making some hull modifications based on testing, as there definitely appears to be some need for improvement, so you can expect an update coming to this in the near future.

Update: Armor rework is complete. Ship's survivability is much better now. Replaced about 1k light armor with heavy armor.

Interesting. I do appreciate feedback on ship performance though, as it helps me improve on future designs.

Thanks. tbh idk how well I could build non-vertical ships at this point. lol.

Didn't read description, was pleasantly surprised to find out someone else builds vertical ships when I walked inside. Great design!

One of my favorites mainly because it reminds me of the Truman Class Dreadnought. Love it!

Glad to hear it. As for custom weapons, I'm keeping these ships free of those. I could do them, but I'd prefer to keep these things as vanilla as possible currently. They're definitely doable and effective, but they make the grids less server friendly. Hopefully Keen will update the weapons and give us some more interesting combat :D

I personally really like the frontal half of the ship, perhaps fitting some projectors & Guided Munitions there will do the trick!
