Morning Calm '85

Description
A Sea Power fictional Campaign of open warfare between DPRK/PRC and ROK/US/UN in and around the Korean Peninsula and Japan. Set in mid to late 1985.

All missions are works in progress and subject to change. Please rate/comment/make suggestions. If anyone is interested in play testing missions as I make them please DM me via Steam. Thank you.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Mission One - Houston We have a Problem

USS Houston, while conducting Intelligence Operations off the coast of North Korea, has been detected by DPRK Forces. Multiple DPRK Patrol Flotillas have been detected in the AO. Before going dark, Houston intercepted multiple scramble alerts from DPRK HQs to local Airbases.

Your orders are to safely withdraw the Houston from DPRK waters without initiating hostile action. The Intelligence the Houston has gathered is vital to preventing war, she must be brought home safely.

Do not fire unless fired upon.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Mission Two - Noncombatant Evacuation Operation (NEO)

Tensions on the Korean Peninsula have reached the brink. United Nations Command, United States Forces Korea (USFK), and INDOPACOM all concur... war on the peninsula is inevitable.

With this in mind, USFK has issued evacuation orders to all US civilians, dubbed NEO. As military units across the Pacific mobilize, tens of thousands of US civilians rush to predetermined locations across South Korea and begin the journey to the port City of Pusan.

There, a large convoy of US Naval Auxiliary and Landing ships await to transport them to Sasebo Naval Station Japan, and safety.

Your orders are to protect the convoy at all costs.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Mission Three - Panic at Jeju

In a surprise attacked at the end of July 1985, PRC and DPRK ground force stormed the DMZ, capturing Seoul and within days forcing Allied Forces back to Pusan. There, ROK/US Army and Marine units desperately hold on to what little ground they have left.

At the same time, DPRK/PRC forces captured Jeju Island. DPRK/PRC ASM and SAM sites are able to impede the flow of merchant and military traffic to and from mainland Japan to the Pusan Pocket. Intelligence reports multiple SAM, ASM sites and Artillery pieces active on the island already.

This cannot be tolerated if the Allies intend to hold Pusan.

A surface bombardment group, led by the Wisconsin has steamed through the night, arriving off Jeju Island at 6AM KST. Its objective: destroy all ground targets, paving the way for Allied Forces to land and retake the island. Once sufficient ground forces have landed, they will be able to set up defenses and bring Jeju's Airfield under Allied control.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Mission Four - Any Port in the Storm

Following the liberation of Jeju Island, Allied Forces have halted offensive operations to consolidate gains. USS Goldsborough, a veteran of the Jeju Island landings, and her escorts are ordered to patrol the South Korean coastline.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Mission Five - End of the Beginning

Recognizing its strategic importance to the final defeat of Allied Forces in the Pusan Pocket, DPRK/PRC sends a large naval task force to Jeju Island in an attempt to recapture it. The Allies cannot afford to lose Jeju Island... again... if they wish to retake South Korea.

Your orders are to defend Jeju Island with what land, air and naval assets are available, thus ensuring the sea lanes remain open. Good Luck Captain.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

-Mission Six - The Breaking Point

With Jeju Island secured and the sea lanes open, a large convoy carrying supplies and reinforcements moves toward Pusan. In desperation, the DPRK sends what remains of its naval surface fleet in a last ditch attempt to stop the convoy from reinforcement the Pusan Pocket. Due to the loses and battle damage, the US Navy is unable to provide much support, but do not fear. The convoy has been bolstered by UK, RAN and JMSDF vessels.

Your orders are to protect the convoy from any and all threats it may face. The convoy must reach Pusan.

interesting. Ill go thru and make everything Ultra on blue and red sides.

I confirmed with devs that training level affects all sorts of things for both ground units and land-based aircraft, including time to track, engage, and fire at enemies, plus weapon hit chance. They reworked many of these formulas and no matter how much I micromanaged the aircraft they were unable to hit anything at the lower training levels (and frequently flew themselves into the ocean while trying). Having the skill levels that low is just an exercise in frustration.

@count

it was intentional. M5 you have a cruiser squadron plus escorts. I recommend spending slightly more time micro'ing aircraft.

correct me if I'm wrong here, the training level only effects Ship DCP efficiency. Not land units at all.

Really awesome campaign. Thank you kindly for many hours of entertainment.

Mission 5 has the airfield units set to "trained" which is the second lowest. This makes defending F-4s almost completely ineffective against enemy air units in recent builds of the game. I was only able to finally complete the scenario after editing the airfield to bump up the skill level. Please address - every other player unit looks to be set to "Ultra" so this may have been an oversight.

@butterlord

negative. M3 intent was to simulate a landing force that thought the beaches were clear only to discover too late the enemy was laying in wait.

You're done with the campaign? Are you not going to add more missions?
