Description
This is a collection of mods that are made and maintained by myself, designed to work together in a modular fashion so that you can customize your experience. The intention is to overhaul the balancing of the game to make things more challenging, interesting and less game-ified, while also adhering to the vanilla style.

I have come to believe that at the core of Crusader Kings 3 is very good game. The sole problem (outside of bugs, the too few yet too spammy events, or the horrendous implementation of DX) is balancing- or rather, the total lack of challenge or surprise. In the current state of the game, Paradox have opted for very little difficulty and I personally believe this is harming the game in quite a significant way as the player never gets to have a moment of surprise, ever. Paradox's vanilla balancing equates to mindless victory with zero consequence and full predictability at all times.

Who is this for?
1. People who agree with the above thoughts.
2. Those who liked Crusader Kings 2.
3. People who think the game is too easy.
4. People that like the idea of mods such as Dark Ages or other system overhauls, but feel like they change the base game or systems too much.

The Mods
Genetic Rarity, the classic CK3 eugenics programs have been made less OP. Congenital traits still get passed down as they always have and people will still carry the genes, but they are less likely to become an active trait.

Mortality Rebalanced introduces greater risk for newborns & those who are in bad shape (ill or wounded) but generally characters have slightly longer lifespans.

Fading Fertility creates a more challenging and realistic approach to family dynamics. By lowering the base fertility (among other factors), this mod adds depth to the strategic elements of character management and succession planning by making children more important.

Matrimonial Mastery ensures that the AI priorities higher quality marriages and gaining alliances.

Lifestyle Perk Rework requires characters to reach a specific skill threshold before being able to to acquire lifestyle perks. No longer can a character with minimal learning effortlessly gain advanced perks like "Scholar" or "Schemer". Instead, each perk now demands a realistic level of expertise.

The Great Men-at-Arms Humbling is a combat balance overhaul that addresses the significant power disparity between the player and AI as caused by the MAA system. It re-balances levies and in doing so helps the AI a tremendous amount in terms of keeping up with the player.

Nye's Aggressive AI makes the AI actually somewhat competent. They are more aggressive, wage wars more frequently and are more likely to build a stable realm.

Claim Fabrication CK2 Style, now you can no longer guarantee fabricating a claim. It is now chance-based, influenced by your Chaplain's skill.

My Other Complimentary Mods (w/links, optional)
No More Blood Legacy is aimed for a more hardcore / difficult experience when coupled with Genetic Rarity as it prevents you from using the Blood Legacy dynasty perks for OP characters / dynasties.

Slower Lifestyle Leveling doubles the amount of experience required to obtain a lifestyle perk.

Chaos Reigns gives a 5% chance every five years of causing absolute chaos. Wars will be waged all over the place, and rulers will be big, big mad.

Bannermen turns vassals of kings and emperors into bannermen. Wars declared by or against your Liege by other kings or emperors will allow every vassal to join, remain neutral, or side with the enemy.

Replacement Mods (w/links)
Humble Adventurers would replace The Great Men-at-Arms Humbling if you do not like the new balancing. Humble Adventurers introduces a nerf for Landless Adventurers only, making them less formidable. No more being as powerful as an emperor within minutes. This leads to more natural gameplay where becoming a ruler is actually a step up in terms of power. (They are NOT designed to work together & this will make adventurers incredibly weak.)

Lifestyle Perk Lootbox would replace Lifestyle Perk Rework if you want to add some random chaos to your character builds. (Chef's choice, I prefer this to the rework.)

Want to have your say?
Feel free to leave a comment suggesting ways in which you think would make the game more difficult, without being an overbearing change. I have a list of features / changes I am going to work on, but I'm always interested in hearing from players about things that I might not even have considered.

Plans
  • Over time, I aim to touch on every aspect of this game in which I think I can make a beneficial difference to in terms of balancing, which will hopefully make the game somewhat more challenging and immersive.
