Welcome the Sphynx. A heavy tank designed for traversing unstable ground of the Empire's eastern mountains along the border. Unlike the typical MBT in the Empire's arsenal, the Object X48 features a robust quad track suspension system that can flex with the terrain it drives on to reduce the risk of loosing a track. While listed as a heavy tank... its armor is not the best, but it caries a higher than average x12 cannon.

A unique silhouette of this tank is partly because of its elongated turret used mostly for extra ammunition storage and frontal profile that presents a very small target when hull down. Unfortunately due to the flat nature of the turret and location of the gun's mount, Its gun elevation is a poor 9 degrees... but at least has a respectable 9 degrees of gun depression. In addition thanks to the turret's shape and height of the engine deck it can only aim in a 220 degree arc, making attacks from the rear a minor problem.

The vehicle's hull features a pike nose and V shaped hull, however is poorly armored for a heavy as it was intended to use large boulders and rough terrain to its advantage, moving through places that other armored vehicles may have greater difficulty and then striking bogged down opponents. The engineers responsible for this Frankenstein tank have mentioned it looks like the results of an Object 257, a Shuttle landing pad, and a Leopard having a 3 way in a gas station bathroom.
