Dwarven Cuisine - Bread

Description
Lady Dwarfs, and Gentle Smiths... Our Chef Under The Mountain is honoured to announce that, at long last we have created... Bread! That's right, the nigh-mythical Solid Beer has become a reality, and with these techniques at your disposal your own fortress cooks can learn the art of Breadcraft. The legends are true, the Bread is real.

This mod adds 4 types of bread (and corresponding dough) each with custom graphics to the game. You'll find a new category in the kitchen called Breadcraft. Under this category you will see tasks to make dough from four different kinds of flour, and also the ability to bake that dough to create bread. Each unit of dough will create 4 loaves of bread.

SPECIAL NOTE: This mod requires my Dwarven Cuisine - Butter mod as a prerequisite. Make sure to load the Butter mod, before the Bread mod. Also, the game has problems finding items that are in a container that is stored inside another container. This is relevant to this mod, as it will be unable to find the required Flour or Sugar that is stored in a barrel. Any Flour or Sugar stockpile intended to be used for bread making should be set to 0 Barrels in order to prevent this issue. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do to fix this, as it is a problem with the base game.

Recipes
~~~~~~
Make Dough
To make Dough, assemble the following ingredients in your Kitchen, and mix together. Each type of dough requires a unique type of Flour, as well as Dwarven Sugar derived from milled Sweet Pods. Sugar and Flour used in this way should be kept in bags and not in barrels, for maximum freshness. Butter is needed, made from any kind of milk available. For the egg, any type will do, as will any kind of Alcohol. However our Chefs recommend Beer, for the true Dwarven taste.
Dwarven Bread Dough
-Cave Wheat Flour
-Dwarven Sugar
-Butter
-Egg
-Alcohol (Beer Recommended, any Alcohol will work)
Rye Bread Dough
-Rye Flour
-Dwarven Sugar
-Butter
-Egg
-Alcohol (Beer Recommended, any Alcohol will work)
Barley Bread Dough
-Barley Flour
-Dwarven Sugar
-Butter
-Egg
-Alcohol (Beer Recommended, any Alcohol will work)
Kinthal Bread Dough
-Whip Vine Flour
-Dwarven Sugar
-Butter
-Egg
-Alcohol (Beer Recommended, any Alcohol will work)
Baking Bread
-Simply Bake the Bread from the corresponding Dough at your kitchen. Each unit of Dough will produce 4 loaves of Bread.
KNOW ISSUES
~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Barrel Bug - Barrels holding Bread and/or Dough are labelled as 'Cheese Barrel', despite holding Bread or Dough. This is caused by how the mod produces custom graphics. I currently do not have the ability to change this while still using custom graphics.

Stockpile Bug - Bread/Dough holding barrels don't always go where they are supposed to. I have done all I can to make them, but sometimes dwarves will stuff them wherever. This doesn't seem to impede function in any way, they are still able to find and retrieve items as needed, but it can be frustrating for making dedicated stockpiles. As a secondary issue, the game has problems finding items that are in a container that is stored inside another container. This is relevant to this mod, as it will be unable to find Flour or Sugar that is stored in a barrel. Any Flour or Sugar stockpile should be set to 0 Barrels in order to prevent this issue. Unfortunately there is nothing I can do to fix this, as it is a problem with the base game.

Bread Monster Feature - As an... Unintended consequence of the way this mod is constructed, there is a SMALL possibility that randomly generated creatures/objects whose material is randomly selected (Such as Forgotten Beasts) will actually be made out of... Bread. Or Dough, actually... I have only seen this twice in multiple world generations (With my Butter Mod specifically), but I find it amusing and have no intention of fixing it, given the rarity of it occurring. This is now considered a feature of the mod.

FAQ
~~~~
Q:I have the right kind of Flour/Sugar but the button to make the dough is still red! What is going on?
A:The game has problems finding items that are in a container that is stored inside another container. Flour and Sugar are actually a Powder item stored inside a Bag container, which can then be stored again inside a Barrel container. Any Flour or Sugar stockpile intended to be used for bread making should be set to 0 Barrels in order to prevent this issue. You can solve this problem in an active fortress by having your dwarves move the flour or sugar out of the barrels by setting up a new stockpile with 0 Barrels, and making it the only stockpile that will accept Flour and Sugar.
Q: If I can use any kind of Egg or Alcohol, why am I limited in my choice of Flour? Aren't there like 28 types of Flour in the game?
A: Yes, there are. I wanted to make the mod so it could use whatever Flour you had, however... This was not practical. The way the game is structured you can call upon any kind of Egg or any kind of Alcohol but Flour is handled differently. In order to keep the mod as compatible as possible, this is the method that I chose to work around the issue. As a plus side, each type of bread has a unique graphic, which otherwise wouldn't be possible.
Q:How do I use bread once I've made it?
A:Your Dwarves will automatically use it as an ingredient when making meals, and they can also eat the bread as a food item itself. Bread is also decently valuable, given how many ingredients are needed and the time required to make it, so you can also sell it for a fair profit.
Save Game Compatibility
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Not looking good, and I highly DON'T recommend using this on existing worlds. It likely won't break anything, but it won't work either. Dwarf Fortress mods are, generally, best used on new world generations, not on existing playthroughs.

Load Order
~~~~~~~~~
After your vanilla stuff, but otherwise it shouldn't matter too much. Anything that edits Entities should be loaded BEFORE this mod.
SPECIAL NOTE: This mod requires my Dwarven Cuisine - Butter mod as a prerequisite. Make sure to load the Butter mod, before the Bread mod.
Mod Compatibility
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Plays well with others. Doesn't like mods that CUT Entities, but can be used with them if loaded afterwards.

@Real Flame - if you are talking about types of Flour not included in this mod, then they would require an additional mod to create bread from them. Hence my More Bread and Simple Bread mods.

How could I go about adding other flour's bread?
Varsocona  [author] 14 Apr @ 11:21am
For those wondering about the egg, I happen to cook my own home-made bread every two weeks and the recipe uses an egg. Like the recipe I created here, 1 egg for a 4 loafs.

Why does the recipe have egg in it lol. Bread should be a basic simple dish

Cool idea. Bread doesn't contain eggs though, that would make it a cake.

@Maligerent This is a strange one to be sure. I took a quick look at AA and there shouldn't be any overlap, it doesn't add bread or dough so it shouldn't have any conflicts with my Mod.

He is kind of right, but the only way to add new items to the game as of when I made this mod (And still, I believe) is to use the cheese Item trick. It does not make the item edible, that is given to the item by a [EDIBLE] Tag on the material.

I uninstalled and reinstalled the mod myself, and double checked it. Dough is NOT edible in the current iteration of this mod. Based on your description of the problem I would have to say, somehow, the dough in your game files is getting the [EDIBLE] Tag when it should only have the [EDIBLE VERMIN] tag. Why this is happening, I don't know. Could be a mod conflict with something else.

UPDATE: According to AA's author, the bread dough is still registered as an edible cheese item.

@Varsocona They still chow on it, but it may be because I am also running Advanced Agriculture, using the patches that are now deprecated. I have unsubbed from these and I reached out to AA's modder to see if this can be fixed

@Maligerent Please let me know if it doesn't work for you. As amusing as the Dwarf's love of raw dough is as you noticed it kind of breaks the mod.

The update was awhile ago now, so this does concern me. If there is a persistent problem, I'll track it down and fix it again.

@Varsocona thank you for the update. I had downloaded it only a few days prior to when I made the comment, the update must be recent. It was still funny to see dwarves desperately scarfing down raw dough like they were starving even though I had like...800 food available. I will give the update trick a try.
