oh and i should add, change the name of your .vtf to like skin7.vtf (but not 6, i use it for my skin already) and then change
"$basetexture" "models/tdmcars/gmcvan/skin6"
to
"$basetexture" "models/tdmcars/gmcvan/skin7"
and place both the skin7.vtf and skin7.vmt into the vehicles "models/tdmcars/gmcvan" folder

Ok so with your .vtf that you saved open in VTFEdit, hit the "new" button and you'll get some text that says something like "VertexlitGeneric" or something like that, then go ahead and clear everything out. Then paste the following:
"VertexlitGeneric"
{
"$basetexture" "models/tdmcars/gmcvan/skin6"
"$bumpmap" "models/tdmcars/shared/skin_nm"
"$halflambert" 1
"$phong" "1"
"$phongboost" "10"
"$phongfresnelranges" "[0.5 0.4 5]"
"$phongexponent" "200"
"$rimmask" "1"
"$envmap" "env_cubemap"
"$envmaptint" "[0.1 0.1 0.1]"
!hdr?$envmaptint "[ 0.2 0.2 0.2 ]"
hdr?$envmaptint "[ 0.3 0.3 0.3 ]"
"$normalmapalphaenvmapmask" 1
"$envmapFresnel" "1"
"$blendtintbybasealpha" "1"
"$envmapcontrast" ".5"
"$surfaceprop" "metal"

"$rimlight" "1"
"$rimlightexponent" "25"
"$rimlightboost" "0.5"
"$phongalbedotint" "1"

}

Ok now what would i need for a .vmt? I am making a basic skin so what would i need for that? I appreciate your help.
The Maint  [auteur] 30 aug 2014 om 8:25
@Ltech, save the template from whatever program youre using to create the skin as any of the following formats: .bmp, .dds, .gif, .jpg, .jpeg, .png, or .tga depending on what quality you want or if youre making an animated skin (im not sure how that works though). Then open VTFEdit and import the image and save as .vtf and youre done.
( Assuming you already have a .vmt that is paired with the skin youre making )
