A dedicated collection for those interested in only the ground forces branch of the Khertland military and all its assets.
The Khertland army is among the oldest branch of Khertland's military, officially formed during the Imperial era and shortly after the navy as a unified national organization. The Army's primary focus early on was the creation of a mechanized force capable of small expeditionary actions at two different conflicts simultaneously. Due to the relatively low GDP of Khertland at the time, the army was not very big and consisted only of 3 battalion sized units and would have been greatly stretched if it tried to act upon its stated commitments. The first official doctrine was written at this time and would remain in use for much of its history.

During this period, the nobility were assigned by the Emperor to raise and manage the nation's martial strength. Noble families usually focused on a single branch where they procure equipment and provide men for the military. Due to a perceived financial prioritization of the navy, the nobles within the army were concerned over their diminishing influence. The tensions got ahead in a political dispute regarding the army's new landing craft which the navy considered it a intrusion on their domain of operations. This led to a serious inter-service rivalry between the navy and army, culminating in the navy's seizure of the vessel along with raising ground-based "naval infantry" units of their own. This rift fueled the power struggles between the noble houses and was a contributing factor to the civil war.
After the civil war, and dethronement of the imperial family, the army was briefly abolished and completely reformed under the banner of the victor. In practice, the victors simply inherited what was left of the pre-war stocks and was largely managed by the same people with only the highest ranks trialed for treason in a kangaroo court. A number of early prototype main battle tanks were in the works when the war ended and their development would continue under the new administration. The lessons learned from the war allowed Khertland to quickly develop highly capable equipment for the period but this lead would not last due to the pace of technological developments. This initial success led to complacency and the eventual defeats suffered during the intervention in GPYF's independence.

This forced the army to significantly modernize its equipment in many areas. However due to the limitations of its industry, Khertland began exploring specialized vehicles that can enable it to fight in otherwise unfavorable terrain to leverage a advantage. Despite these attempts, Khertland did not prioritize its army and remained a small force growing only marginally. Additionally, the army could not keep pace with vehicles of its neighbors and by the time of the economic collapse, the Khertland army was thoroughly obsolete. The doctrine they have used since the Imperial times have also been found to be completely unfeasible in exercises leading to its abandonment but with no successor.
In an attempt to modernize once more, Khertland developed the Escutcheon III and a new airborne light tank that would set the stage for vehicles to come. However, it was simply the last throes before the funding dried up and the military in general was left to the wayside as social unrest became rampant.

In the modern day, as Khertland recovered from the depression; the new and current government administration prioritized growth of the Province of Trazmarr. This growth spurred economic development freeing up funding to the military once more. Trazmarr being the only province with a land border prompted the need for the army to modernize, especially due to the size and economic importance of the province. Additionally, the deteriorating situation in Coldhaven led to serious concerns over a possible Northern invasion without any meaningful buffer. The situation further spiraled out of control as regions started breaking away from GPYF, a critical ally and neighbor.
As a result, the army for the first time in the nation's history received funding priority over the navy. The army first iterated off the research done on their previous successful Escutcheon III main battle tank to create the new Escutcheon IV. With the new vehicle, the army used them in exercises to come up with a new doctrine that will eventually guide them on future procurement. A large number of major exercises were conducted which led to the creation of the army's current doctrine focusing on combined arms fire and maneuver. The rate of new procurement was fast and the army quickly raised 4-5 Divisions equipped with highly modern, advanced, and capable vehicles.
Additionally, legislation were enacted to finally address grand strategic concerns such as manpower and recruitment problems. The current goal is to raise a total of about 22 divisions each with consisting of 3-4 maneuver regiments in addition to supporting assets, which is about halfway complete.
